if you guys are looking for a cheap mic which could also be used for recording, the NADY starpower mics have been compared to the SM57. There bulky like real mics ( youd need a stand ) but theyre like 8$.

The wonders of technology..just had a nice conversation with WR all the way from The Netherlands! I hope more people try out TeamSpeak.

I hope more people try out TeamSpeak.

I'll second that. it's really fun to do. I never used a feature like this before, and it's unlike you'd expect, completly different then either chatrooms or telephone conversations. You just have an open line, but don 't have to talk non-stop, plus you can do other stuff (like checking the web) in the meantime. You can talk about what you find, listen too etc, and random conversation. it's actually a lot like watching a live-band together, or a television show or whatever. totally cool. join up people!

Yeah it was really fun...we browsed some myspace together and listened to Joes killer comp track. It was just incredibly cool talking to WR for the first time. Thumbs Up

I wish I could speak Dutch as good as you speak English.

I have been assuming it won't work, but maybe...?

Don

I honestly don't know Jet. Could always try it.

Well, I connected with WR and we could talk BUT my Mac echoes everything I say back to me- WR says this is a test function that can be turned off, but I don't have the same menu funtions that he does, and I can't figure out how to turn off this "Feature". Any other Mac users out there?
Now here's an interesting quirk- when WR went offline, I didn't have this problem.

yeah, righty on Ferenc, it's what everybody tells me: I leave and problems dissapear! Wink

seriously, tit might be something other then the test function then. I DID notice that whenever you spoke my light went on (haha) ... might be feedback through my mic, the delay is cause by the back and forth cross-atlantic trip of the sound.

question is is it cyberfeedback in the computer somewhere or physical, since my VAC is set high? let's try it again tomorrow and Ill use push-to-talk instead of VAC - if it's physical feedback, that should solve it.

however, the double light thing was also happening when my mic wasnt even plugged in.... Brian, suggestions??

Yeah...you are hearing yourself come back to you when WR talks....and/or your mic is picking up your speakers and looping it back. This is why I highly recommend using a headset to isolate the mic from your speakers. Or keep your mic far away from your speakers...but a headset works best (headphone/mic combo).

Using push to talk helps with this too.

i'm too shy with my voice and i've got little to say. plus, it's easier to watch my mouth in text!

still a really cool feature.

OK, got it all figured out!
Thanks WR, Danny and Brian

This thing kind of died because our TeamSpeak host went belly up.

However, we are now on our own server, and I can easily host my own TeamSpeak server. So if there is any interest, please speak up. We used it a few times in the past, and it was a lot of fun, but it never really caught on. It was great for recording Danny for the podcast though. Smile

I would do it, but I need some kind of headphone thing to talk through.

I am super sweet

The only comment I'd make is that any audio-based web application is only going to work if you have a high-speed internet connection, whereas something like an IRC chat is usable on dial-up.

The internet connection from Oz to the rest of the world is lucky if it runs at 2MBps which isn't really capable of supporting consistent, reliable streaming.. but as there's only 3 of us here (according to the member map), maybe that shouldn't affect the decision for the vast USA/European populations of the site, I guess...

I'm as free from money as a frog is from feathers

TeamSpeak works pretty well and has a huge variety of codecs. I've never tried it on dial-up though. In any event, I could make a "room" in TS with a low bandwidth codec for anyone on dialup.
