"Join The Brooklynite as they give the gift of the islands with their Tiki Yuletide Party! The crew at BK wants to bring the warmth of the Hawaiian islands to San Antonio for their last big bash of 2014. The team has arranged for the smooth surf and garage sounds of King Pelican to permeate the air as they craft fruity, boozy libations with spirits like Monkey Shoulder, Sailor Jerry, Ancho Reyes, Milagro, and Flor de Caña rums. One of SAs newest food trucks, LocaVore, will be offering a super special tiki menu that will focus on a whole Kahula pig. Accompanying the fine swine will be sides like pineapple kimchee, wasabi calamari, purple potato salad, and island mac and cheese. As always, Tiki Tuesday means guests are encouraged to don their tikiest of tiki garb. This is sure to be a wicked rad event, with food, music and garnish-heavy tiki cocktails to celebrate the season in a unique and fun way."
Friends and guitar music fans:
I am happy to tell you that I have a new band ‹ Paul Johnson & Friends ‹ and that this new band is about to make its DEBUT PERFORMANCE this coming weekend at the COFFEE GALLERY BACKSTAGE in ALTADENA.
I have hand-picked some of the top players from within the surf-instro genre to work with me at this endeavor of love. Accompanying me on the CGB stage for our first public performance will be:
As Ron & Matt are both adept at playing both the guitar and the bass, the plan here is to have them trade off between the two instruments, thus lending greater variety to guitar sounds within the band. The group's repertoire will include all the usual surf and rock-instrumental classics, as well as my own catalog of original tunes. The goal for Paul Johnson & Friends is to move the genre forward with new ideas for the music, while remaining faithful to the original style that defines the surf-instrumental genre.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 7 PM
THE COFFEE GALLERY BACKSTAGE

John Jerd, the President of Stars and Stripes Events, said, "This concert will make music history because the audience hasn't seen some of these groups in decades, and never all these famous band members in one concert."

The FIRST annual Northwest Acoustic Guitar Contest & Concert will be on Sat. Sept 27, 2014 in Vancouver, Washington (Portland, Oregon metro area). It will be at Shorty's Garden Center, 10006 SE Mill Plain Blvd.
The first part of the contest is singer-guitarist (noon-2:25pm), so we'll skip to the second part which is acoustic fingerstyle. Six competing guitarists will each perform solo for ten minutes.
At 3:30 this contest will be followed by an acoustic surf guitar performance by Conrad of the Insanitizers surf guitar band. This will also be solo for ten minutes. Conrad intends to demonstrate the attractiveness of flatpicked instrumental guitar music as a category for future contests and concerts.
Attendance from noon to 4pm is entirely free. The music is suitable for all ages.
The Concert part will start at 6pm with a reprise by the winners of the two contests. From 6:45-7:30pm singer-guitarist Scott Gallegos will perform. He will be followed by two acoustic fingerstyle guitarists who do not sing, including national award winner John Standefer.
Here is the detailed schedule (.pdf).
