Maybe so, but what impresses me is that this means there are at least 8,000 people across the world who still care enough about this genre to sign up here. Not to mention, almost all of them are musicians.

But, I need to stop posting in the shoutbox. I've been on a roll lately... Need more threads!

8000 members? I like that number! Good job!!!

Well it is definitely true that only a small fraction of that 8000 are active. And a lot of them seem to be spammers.

Help us meet our monthly goal:
The Surfaders have just released their first CD: "Dragstrip Murder Mystery." Thirteen tracks of genuine Surf Noir: a mix of classic surf guitar, punk energy, new-wave sensibility and a pinch of exotica.
The ultra-cool melodies on this album wil conjure up images of Philip Marlow downing white russians with the Dude at a South-Western Titty-Bar; of Nobody shooting it out with Vincent Vega during a storm at Key Largo; of Dr. Sam Loomis seducing Kay Lawrence in a sweltering dismal Swamp. Get it, or miss out! "Dragstrip Murder Mystery" is available via firstname.lastname@example.org or cdbaby. Be quick 'cause the first edition is selling fast!
More info: check www.surfaders.nl
Just a note to let you know that I'm making myself available for such things as giving guitar lessons, coaching young surf bands in getting their act together, producing your band's next CD (or playing guitar on your studio project), etc. etc. If this is of interest to you, please see my more detailed post in the "Classified: Musicians and gigs wanted" section. Thanks! — pj

This very special 9'0" longboard, graciously donated by Irvin Surfboards of Huntington Beach, was the grand prize raffle item at the Benefit for Eddie Bertrand, held last winter. For those not aware, Eddie was one of the pioneers of SoCal surf music, both with the seminal Belairs and Eddie and the Showmen. Eddie is battling severe health problems, and I was thrilled to be a part of his benefit, and doubly fortunate to win the raffle for surfboard. Check out some highlights from the concert.
The board is in perfect condition and is a work of art in and of itself. It's been signed not only by Eddie Bertrand, but by all the performers --- first, second, and third-wavers --- who came together to help out a brother. This board has been a proud part of my decor for the last year, but it is time to put it to work to further assist Eddie with his medical bills. This auction is proceeding with Eddie's knowledge and approval, and 100% of the proceeds will be forwarded to Eddie at its conclusion. PLEASE step up to the plate for a most worthy cause. Local pick-up preferred, but if you are willing to bid to help Eddie, we'll work something out. Thank you for looking, please place your bid now!
Greetings from Canada!
You can now listen to The Falcons Atomic Guitar on The Riot Act podcast with Rev. Terence Fitzgerald, from CHLY Nanaimo BC, featuring The Falcons and The White Stripes.
In other news, we've caught up with the 90s and posted a few videos on Youtube: here's Wild Tide.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it or not but the new Phantom Four album "Morgana" is offically out. I've heard the entire album and must say it has everything you come to expect from Phantom Frank and the gang. Yes this is the instrumental album, not the "Sounds From The Obscure" featuring Arguido aka RudeBoy. You have several options when purchasing either or both. I personally don't mind the Argido material as I was a fan of his former group Urban Dance Squad. http://thephantomfour.bandcamp.com/album/morgana
Coming SOON: One of those “ya gotta be there” events...!
A rare and special So Cal appearance by AUSTRALIA’S #1 surf guitar star, MARTIN CILIA. Martin has been championing the surf sound down under as lead guitarist for the great Aussie surf band, THE ATLANTICS, and he is clearly one of the best $#&%*! surf guitarists to be found anywhere.
Now, for the very first time, Martin will be making musical waves here in California. There will be TWO local opportunities to catch his act — one in the LA area and one in Orange County — both featuring Martin playing with California surf guitarist Paul "Mr Moto" Johnson from the seminal surf group the BELAIRS.
Friday, March 9 in Hermosa Beach — at SUZY’S Bar & Grill (1141 Aviation Blvd, Hermosa Beach). Tix are a mere $8 at the door; show starts at 9 PM. Also on the bill: Banned from the Beach.
Sunday, March 11 in Huntington Beach — at Don the Beachcombers (16278 PCH). No cover; show starts around 6:30 in the “Dagger Bar.” Martin & Paul will be backed in this show by drummer Dusty Watson and bassist Matt Quilter. Come early for a casual “meet ‘n greet” with Martin, featuring a jam session with Matt Quilter and his “wave machine.” (Pre-show activities commence at around 5 pm; note: Don’s serves excellent food and drink.)
More about Martin:
The Madeira - Tribal Fires CD (Double Crown)
After eight years of adventures through the Saharan deserts, with “Tribal Fires” the Madeira have gone Sub-Saharan, into the dark and mysterious depths of central African jungles. It’s a journey that finds the band exploring new sounds with a highly diverse album, ranging from the most aggressive to the most melodic songs (including a tribute to The Shadows) the band has ever done – and everything in between. There are 13 songs in total, of which two are covers: an original arrangement of Ernesto Lecuona’s “Jungle Drums,” and the Atlantics’ “Giant”.
Tracks: Tribal Fury - Cities of Gold - Twilight - Fire Sacrifice - The Expedition - Witch Doctor - Jungle Drums - Arcadian Voyage - Mar Vista - Giant - Pre-Ritual - The Ritual - Zanzibar
