HBkahuna: Tony Valentino, founder and lead guitarist of The Standells "Dirty Water" was so stoked by his SG101 Convention experience that he went home, composed and recorded a new surf song. Trying to figure best way to share. Tony gave his permission to share.

Surf Scene News
V/A - Seasonal Favorites: Volume One CD

Originally released back in 2000, this collection of yuletide tunes performed by surf n' garage bands from throughout the world sold out within a few months of it's original release. Now 6 years later the time is right to reissue it - with bonus tracks! We've added three tunes that we're sure you'll enjoy. It has cover art by Johnny Bartlett and 16 great tunes (14 instros/5 vocals). We hope to put together Volume Two next year (if you are in a band and want to be a part of next year's release please get in touch)!

Tracks:
1. Jon & The Nightriders - Sleigh Ride
2. The Boss Martians - It's Christmas Time
3. The Neptunas - Mistletoe Twist
4. Girl Trouble - Sigue Sigue X-mas
5. Death Valley - Carol of the Bells
6. Los Mel-Tones - Silent Night
7. The Aqualads - We Wish You A Merry Xmas

The Whys @ The Blank Club, San Jose 11/3/06

Show Reports
I enjoyed this show a lot.
Surf Cinema honing their craft, with their entertaining barrage of classic Surf-tinged pop video.

Pollo Del Mar doing a select set of "Best Of".

The Whys succeeded in charming the audience with the same kind of "Joi de Surf" that the Surf Coasters brought in years past. The fronting females have the sex-appeal, Japanese charm and the randomly choreographed moves, but also have the talents. With a solid drummer, the band was both tight and raw-edged, which put them squarely in the class of capable garage Surf acts. I just can't get enough of female bass players who do glissandos!

I believe Dandy Don Vigeant did the venue-specific poster for The Blank show and KFJC did the co-sponsoring. See the remaining shows because you will come away smiling!
