Here are some photos from the rest of the Madeira tour of Italy (following the Surfer Joe fest). We played another five shows in six nights. I don't have very many photos that would be of general interest. But here are a few good ones.
July 28th, Trieste - an amazing open-air venue right on the Adriatic sea, with a huge stage and a powerful sound system. Probably our second best show of the tour (after our gig at the Surfer Joe fest, which was definitely the highlight). There were probably 120-150 people there (more people came in by the end of the night compared to the photo), which was remarkable given that it was a Tuesday night. And playing in the face of the night seawind, watching the moon disappear into the sea, was an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Unforgettable.
The Wet-Tones from Trieste opened for us. They played a great set, I really loved it! Surprisingly, they didn't play any songs from their fantastic debut CD from a few years ago, and even more surprisingly they sounded more Euro-instro than surf, playing a bunch of Spotnicks tunes and similar, mixing in (I think) three Los Straits covers. Still, they were excellent!
We got a big laugh at this sign (they were 0-for-3!!) outside of the beautiful almost-beach-front club in the resort town of Viareggio, north of Livorno, which seems to usually book cover bands. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bad omen....
Lorenzo's Toyota Corolla which fit five of us, a Twin Reverb, a reverb unit, two Strats and a Jazz bass, a snare drum and kick pedal, a box of merchandise, and a suitcase and a few bags containing the clothes (including the stage clothes) for all of us for three days during which we criss-crossed northern Italy, following Hanibal's route of rape and pillage! (No, not really...) Anyway, a true wonder of Japanese engineering.... (However, Italian drivers are completely crazy...)
A fiesta-red love-fest (from our last show, in Rosignano).
Pure gear porn....
The last supper of our tour. On the left - the Madeira; on the right, the Wadadli Riders, with whom we were fortunate to play the last three shows of our tour.
The Wadadli Riders in Rosignano - it was a Vespa Convention show! Outdoors, on a perfect summer night, with the perfect view of a medieval castle high on a hill right in front of us (see below). What a way to bring to an end an unforgettable ten days.
There you go! _________________ Ivan

Thanks for the nice words, everybody! It was indeed an incredible experience and we had a fantastic time. I don't have any photos from one of the shows which was a bit special, which is a shame. Our fifth show (out of six) was for the big citywide festival called Notte Bianca (White Night) in Livorno (with the Wadadli Riders playing earlier that night) on one of the open-air squares near the Ligurian Sea. Lorenzo's brother Lucca, an extremely talented musician AND a nice guy (both definitely run in the family!) plays in a bunch of different bands, including the Wadadli Riders and the Pipelines, and that night his newest band, a Pink Floyd tribute band, had their debut show, playing right after us and headlining the night's festivities. There were a lot of people there, including a large hippie contingent, creating a cloud of weed smoke engulfing everyone in the audience (I guess it's no wonder we had such a good time!). I'm not a huge Floyd fan, but these guys were really great and they *nailed* the music, which was remarkable given that I think they only had a few practices together.
Anyway, it was a very good night (with yet again perfect weather), and Niki told us later that she saw a news report on the entire festival on the local TV station, and apparently they showed a 10-second (or something like that) clip of us playing - so, now we can say we've been on Italian TV! How freakin' cool is that??? _________________ Ivan
