You betcha Mad dude. The Surge! is stoked and super happy to be a part of this great event.
We will be hanging it out there with an all original set, and plan on debuting our brand new original called "M.O.T.Sa."

Well, I'll chime in since (surprisingly) no one else has.
I was roadie-ing for The Surge at the Friday night event, and it was awesome. The Star Bar was totally PACKED. If the Fire Marshal has showed up he would have freaked out.
I didn't get to stay to see all six bands, but I'm sure someone who did will write a good review. I did meet a couple of new surf friends from The Mad Scientists. Aside from the band personnel, all the "usual suspects" were there including The Reverend Rex Reverb, Greg Fleeman, Gregory Nicoll, Bill Racer(sp.?) and many, many others whose names escape me at the moment because I'm old. Plus there were so many people there, that I'm sure I didn't notice everyone that was there as I was concentrating on the myriad of hot women that were present. All of them much too young for me, though...dammit.
Lots of merchandise was available for sale, some other great stuff was raffled off, and hopefully a nice big pile of moolah went to Spanky to help defray what must be some massive medical bills. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Brian.
And last but not least, Jet Powers did a masterful MC-ing job as well. Kudos, Jet!! _________________ Woody

Thanks Woody!
I'm pretty much recovered from 2 days of Spanktacular activity.
The Operation was a great success!
I'll keep this mostly surf-centric.
The Mystery Men! were the ATL surf reps on Thurs and boy, did they deliver!
From the opening chords they announced their presence and dedication to the cause, and the crowd really dug it! and they made some new fans.
In fact one of the guys who worked with me on the benefit is a local promoter and was so impressed that he gave The Mystery Men! the opening slot for an upcoming Legendary Shackshakers show on the spot!
On Fri, The Surge! kicked off the festivities with a massive wave of reverb that really got the crowd goin', and set the stage for many great things to come!
The emotional and musical highlight of the show was The Penetrators with Spanky playing lead!
Spanky's last treatment was 10 days prior and he was determined to play---and boy did he ever! Sticks and Trace anchored the action as The Penetrators ripped through a one of a kind set that featured some special guests.
Caroline (of The Ramblers) came to do a first ever vocal with The Penetrators--Bobby Fuller's "New Shade of Blue" that was a beautiful jaw dropper.
El Capitan joined the lads on stage to go through a song he wrote, but only The Penetrators have actually played live, "Cielito Lindo" an entrancing S Western number.
Then John McGowan, local guitar savant, hit the stage to play a few the boys--John is a close friend of the Rogers family.
Spanky looked ande played great, and his brief address to the crowd was inspirational!
Overall, the event raised over $3500 for the Rogers famliy.
Spanky has an appt this Tues with his doctors to discuss the next phase of his treatment. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

Boy, was that ever a great event!!!!!!!! Two long nights at the Star Bar is tough on the "Old Dude," but I would not have missed it for the world.
As Woody mentioned, the loyal Southern Surf Fans came out in droves. It was great to catch up with a lot of cool people I had not seen in way too long.
Thanks, Cpt Powers for allowing The Surge! to be a part the action. You can count on us anytime you want to do it again.
Sir Twangler is a fine gentleman and we admire him a lot. It was an extremely moving experience to see him spring into action once again!
I play surf/instro today because I crossed paths with Spanky and Rip at the the Star Bar in January 1997. Those guys changed my life. Thank you guys.

Thanks to everybody that came out and the bands and especially Jet who did so much to pull this event off. I'll post a detailed account in the next few days. So many thoughts and emotions and still not the energy to place the words in proper order. It was a night like no other.
