I am using a Ernie Ball round wound 12 - 54 set with a wound 24 for a G. For some songs like The Munster Theme and maybe even Wipeout it would be nice to bend the G string. Do you guys drop down to a plain 18, 19, 20, or go to a 22W? —Owner of Gunbarrel Custom Guitars! |

I've definitely settled on Thomastik flats, 11 gauge. Just thick enough to thunk, but still bendable. — |

I remember from the 12 part Guitar center concert series (found on youtube) when the guy was interviewing him between songs, Dick says |

I've seen this before, and it's certainly impressive. It's too bad that many people walk out of his show at about the 3- or 4-minute mark of his version of Third Stone from the Sun, and don't get to witness the shredded picks in person. (I did, twice.) It's the absolute worst. Audio torture. —Ivan |

Does anyone know when hex core strings first came out? The first wave surf guys would have been using round core flats, those who did use flats, right? — |

No, flats aren't a guaranteed for the first wave. Round wounds were out there. |

Yes, I know, but I mean was it all round core, or was there hex core? — |

No hex core, as far as I know. I think there were a 70s or 80s thing. |

I'm still a n00b and didn't have much experience with different brands, but I noticed something very strange about nickel plated strings by Rotosound and Dunlop. Initially they sound awesome, but very quickly begin to fade away and lose their awesomeness. On the day I installed them and "played" a few hours, dark spots appeared on the tinier strings. This is definitely not the case with Earnie Ball. I wonder whether I got bad sets or this is normal for these brands? |

I completely disagree. My Rotosound strings sound good for weeks of regular playing. Sometimes it seems to me they sound even better after a couple of weeks of playing!
I've been using Rotosounds exclusively for 8 years or more and have never noticed that. —Ivan |

Hmm, OK I will give them another try. Maybe my sweat is too acid. Like the alien in Alien:) |
