I'm on my third go around with the A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in Your Mind. Those in the UK should pick up a copy. It is great. Everybody else should pirate it.

Brian, what loud noise caused your tinnitus? When I was a teenager I didn't go to shows much, but one day I decided to take every handgun in the house out shooting with no ear protection. With the little stuff it didn't matter much, but after blasting off a couple with the larger calibers I became aware that my hearing was dull and of a constant background ringing. When I woke up the next day and it was still there I got nervous...fortunately it was gone after two. Ever since then, it's been earplugs for me. I keep 'em in my backpack, my instrument bag, my car, and (of course) my shooting bag.

What about spiders?! Durn kids today, all you do is mumble. Will SOMEBODY answer that phone? It's been ringing all day! Smile

You know your tinnitus is really bad when other people can hear it too. Hmmm

There you kids go mumbling about spiders again. Smile

In all seriousness, I consider myself fortunate to have gotten this far in life without significant hearing loss. I attribute this to being proactive about the subject. I use foam ear plugs for casual tasks that involve a lot of noise (lawn mowing etc.) and I am adamant about stage volume. Overly loud drummers do not get a second chance any more and depending upon the circumstances they will probably be asked to to quiet down or leave the gig.

Oh, and Insect Surfers, and back-issues of the SG101 podcast.

Plus the sound of my Mac Mini's fan going full-bore because (I believe) somebody left a connector off of a temperature sensor when they swapped the RAM. (It was still under warranty). Normally it's dead quiet.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

the clothes dryer turning, the refrigerator humming and the dog barking at it's food bowl...

My clothes dryer makes a really loud noise at around 240 beats per minute. It honestly sounds like the bass drum at a speed metal concert.

5 Cd's on shuffle mode right now:
The 4 CD box The Move Anthology 1966-1972

Roy Wood is boss! This set unearthed some rare stuff from very early 1966, and includes many of the unavailable and original live tracks from the 1968 Marquee shows the Something Else from the Move ep was taken from. The Something Else tracks were doctored in the studio, most featured entirely new vocal tracks. This box features some of the show as it was on the night(s), and is raw as hell. Roy played a Jag through a ToneBender and a wah on the live stuff, and was pretty fond of Eastern sounding melodies and drones ala Roger McGuin and Jeff Beck's stuff in the Yardbirds. All five members sang so the harmonies are incredible as well.

The Paybacks Love Not Reason. Rock and Roll from Detroit that is so raw and beautiful it just about moves me to friggin' tears!

Are you listening to it because it is an awesome CD?

Andrew Bird - Oh No. New album out this month.

Did you see that thing he did with Yo-Yo Ma? It was incredible. That is the only thing I've ever heard him do though.

Yeah, I loved that. You should check out his albums, especially "The Mysterious Production of Eggs", and "Armchair Apocrypha". Great stuff.

Edit: you can hear the song I was listening to right here:
