(Non Surf) Album of the Year for me!
Ridiculously great!!
Brian and Jamie, I was listening to this album again yesterday, and it struck me again (as it does each time I hear it) that it owes a LOT to a '90s shoegazing band Swervedriver. I bet you Mastodon are big fans. Since you love this album so much, may I recommend you check out Swervedriver's "Raise" and "Mezcal Head" albums (in particular the latter)? Amazing stuff, though Mastodon are quite a bit more extreme in their sound, but I think the influence is undeniable. I guess this is part of the reason why the Mastodon guys have in the past said they're not really a metal band (though, c'mon, get real...)

The Budos Band - Burnt Offering
Their new album really takes them into new (and rockier) territory. Instro jazz funk rock badassery. Check em out!
Also, they're playing in LA tomorrow night. I might try to get last minute tickets. I've seen them before live and they're awesome.

i've been sampling hours and hours of music from multiple genres trying to get the 'best of' to add to the music library at our local radio station. we've come a long way but still have a long way to go. i got a bunch of surf in there too.

I've been revisiting this one as of late
Such a great sounding album with great tunes and playing. I wish Mai Tai would rerelease their catalogue.

Rev,
that is one of my all time fave albums,
Mai Tai and its parent company Doctor Dream are out of print.
But I am going to talk to Lee of dionysus records about re-leasing some more of that Mai Tai stuff, he did the first 2 Stereophoic Space Sounds unlimited.
