Long, Long, Long is my favorite tune on the "White Album". So amazing. Another really great George Harrison tune is It's All Too Much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U14xSCKQEmM And the All Things Must Pass on Anthology 3... Abbey Road could have had Here Comes the Sun, Something, and All Things Must Pass. But I guess Lennon and McCartney had to get all of their cuts on there. I think the world could have lived without Come Together, that song kind of blows. Not a huge Oh Darling fan either. |

Agreed!
Again, completely agreed! The super-fuzzed out guitar with the heavy feedback was extremely uncharacteristic for Harrison, but it's just awesome.
I forgot about that, I have to check that out.
Or Maxwell's Silver Hammer? Ugh... I think Abbey Road is way overrated. The second side has some interesting and decent parts, and, OK, the Harrison songs are amazing, as I already said, and I Want You is pretty cool, but overall it's really not a very good album. Ivan |

Discussing the Beatles are where threads go to die. It should be included in the old saying about never discussing religion and politics. ...and now back to your regularly scheduled "What are you listening to Right Now" thread... Forgive me, Doug, I forgot about Octopus' Garden - that one clearly saves the whole album!
True, I won't argue there. Especially following as it did the incredible Help/Rubber Soul/Revolver streak.
Whoa! Put away your knives, Doug, it'll be OK. Just my own personal opinion, did not mean to cause any offense. If you love it, then who am I to say it's no good?! I used to love all the Beatles stuff equally, but as I've gotten older I've noticed that some stuff remained fresh and vibrant and some didn't. For me, AR didn't. But YMMV.... —Ivan Last edited: Mar 29, 2012 20:48:43 |

I've heard great things about this, Ryan, and look forward to checking it out at some point soon. (Not on HBO, as I don't get it, but as soon as it comes out on DVD in May...) —Ivan Last edited: Mar 30, 2012 08:02:03 |

I figured Scorsese must be a George Harrison fan when he included "What is Life" in the soundtrack to Good Fellas. There is a documentary called "A Beatle in Benton, Il. (Illinois) which I confess, I found unwatchable. If you read the Amazon reviews, you will know why, so I won' go into it. BUT, I found the concept so interesting. George visiting his sister in the little town of Benton 1963--a virtual unknown--just months before the Beatles were to take America by storm. But I'm sure this is covered in the Scorsese doc. |

I'm OK now, no offense taken but I do fear for your soul. Now that you mention it, Octopuses Garden has a sterling guitar solo, incredible tone. I guess they always threw in a stinker on about every album. I also prefer the early Beatles work, I just listened to Let It Be Naked, it has pictures of Lennon playing a Fender IV. Trialin' Music Unlimited: There's a month-long free trial offer for this music streaming service. I have to say I'm enjoying it so far. The sound is not great, but it's a pretty handy resource. At $10/month it's a little more expensive than Netflix. I've been typing in some of the WAYLTRN titles that show up here, but I have to admit that a lot of them (most?) aren't showing up. —RK |
