It's a coffee table book chock full of great color pics and stories from all of the players. Hopefully my copy will be here today or this week; everything into this burg always seems to take some extra time. (Ordered via the original pledge site.) This will be an in-house movie "date night" kinda thing. I finished watching last night. I started a few days ago and made around 20 minutes. I wasn't too excited. Then it changed gears and got interesting. I really enjoyed the last hour. Looking at the video footage from the 60's brought a huge grin to my face. I'd forgot how young we were. I'll watch it again on down the road. It was fun to bring old memories back with the music. The Gong show part was great! I don't regret buying a copy. |

Finally, after all the short trips & other commitments, finally just made a date-night with the Admiral and we just finished watching it. (Haven't been thru the 2nd disc yet or any out-takes or other stuff.) We're both really pleased with it especially considering what a long labor of love it represents for so many who kept plugging to make the thing. We're both at that age where ALL that music filled our lives in one respect or another when we were young. Tomorrow maybe for a run-through of everything that remains on the discs. Haven't been back to that area (mostly) since '69, but even seeing the Capitol records building fondly reminded me of a favorite uncle whose glass company had the contract for the glass in that puppy when it was built and, back in the day, that was a lot of damn windows. Great movie. And yeah, I'd never seen Tommy's Gong Show appearance either. Perfectly fits his sense of humor. 2x —Wes DISCLAIMER: The above is opinion/suggestion only & should not be used for mission planning/navigation, tweaking of instruments, beverage selection, or wardrobe choices. |

Seeing this and knowing that many of us are music business fanatics and have affinity toward seeing as much as they can get their paws on, I am responding with this to help satisfy the insatiable urge and hope if I mistakenly left any out that you would forgive me and feel free to add to this list. My copy of the Wrecking Crew in blue ray is expected in a few days and to my understanding it was just released on June 16th. This discussion prompted me to make the list I have always promised myself to make. Some other great music Business titles are: Atlantic 60: the house that Ahmet built 20 feet from stardom The greatest Ears in Town: the Arif Mardin Story Sound City : Dave Grohl Standing in the Shadows of Motown Searching for Sugar Man : Sixto Rodriguez Dreams to Remember : the Legacy of Otis Reading Robert Wyatt : Free Will and Testament Move me Brightly : documentary concert film celebrating Jerry Garcia's 70th birthday Muscle Shoals Respect Yourself : the Stax Records Story Good ole Frida : Frida Kelly Tom Dowd and the Language of Music Produced by George Martin Beware of Mr. Baker : Ginger Baker Story Who the F**K is Arthur Fogel ( way important eye opener )(and as far as I know it's a web buy only)(or find it on Netflix) I ain't in it for my health: a film about Levon Helm Super mensch: the legend of Shep Gordon The life of Riley (that would be B.B.) Inventing David Geffen Then some others: Brian Wilson presents SMILE When you're Strange : a film about the Doors The Last Days of Cordelia Records (somewhat surf) The Atlantics : flight of the surf dogs Pounding Surf : a drummers guide to surf music Reverb Junkies : An Orange County Rockumentary As far as I know there are no copies out yet on LOVE AND MERCY Don't Fear the Reverb ! So agreed BTD .. that one on WHO THE F**K is Arthur Fogel Will get you too, even if your not a fan of some of the bands, any music promoter has something to learn from this guy. It was amazing ... I saw it on NETFLIX but you can pay out a simple download from Amazon if you need to. My jaw is still dragging on the ground. It seems it is not yet available on a disc. —Don't Fear the Reverb ! Thanks DaveF..I finally got around to watching it on Netflix. That is one sad story. ( Even sadder than watching "searching for Sugar Man. ) Amazing tunes and still they are not THAT well known but seemed to have influenced hundred of other bands.
