Anyone own a Gretsch Pro Jet with the Blacktop FilterTrons? Haven't been able to find one near me to play. What can you tell me about the tone you get from the pickups? What kind of music are you playing with it? Could it surf in a pinch? Thx.

Sean

I just got a 5420 with the black filtertrons. I'm quite likin' the pup tones for surfy stuff. Here are some soundbites through my modified PR clone (hastily recorded with onboard mic on iMac into garbageband)

Still need to try out one of these Pro Jets, but I really hear one calling my name. I've just never bonded with my CP Jazzmaster so I'm looking to sell that and either go for one of these Gretschs or maybe a Fender Cabronita.

Sean

I love my Pro Jet, but it's an older one without the black tops. It sustains forever and is a good surf axe. Very versatile guitar.

Either you surf, or you fight.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go with a Pro Jet. Now I just need to decide to go with either Cliff Gallup black or sparkley silver. Decisions, decisions....

Well, sparkley silver would indicate Billy Zoom, who now makes amps and reverbs.

Went with the silver sparkle Pro Jet. Should hopefully be here by Wednesday of next week.
