Permalink Chord in Chantay's Pipeline?

New Topic

There's a chord played during the breaks in the Chantays' Pipeline, it's only strummed a few times during the song, I believe it may be arpeggiated, anyone know what it is? What notes should be fretted? Thanks.

BTW I have four sheet music/TAB books with Pipeline and NONE identify the chord mentioned above.

I just listened to the song, I believe you are talking about the electric piano. Tell us what times they happen to the song if you don't believe that is it.

The verse consists of Em and then Am, I believe that is what you are hearing, if by 'breaks', you mean where it is quieter which would be the beginning of the verses.

I believe you're correct, it's the electric piano. Can I imitate that with a guitar chord? I've got the rest of the song mastered but it just doesn't sound right without that embellishment.

Again, exactly what time in the song does it happen? If I explain how to do it and it isn't the same part you are thinking I could screw you up.

Anyways, the part I am thinking of happens quite a bit and I would suggest just holding the Am shaped barre chord on the 7th fret and SLOWLY strumming up three strings, you can also do an open Dm shape on the second fret and slow strum up on the first three strings.

Tremolo is key, as the is the slowly strumming upwards. It is just the root notes of the chord, nothing tricky.

It's in the beginning of the song, in the background, starting at the 8 second mark and goes until the 14 seconds mark. It reappears later in the song. Can it be duplicated and which is it, a downstroke or upstroke? Thank you for helping so quickly.

Yep, that is what I was thinking. It goes through the entire verse, not just the 8 secs to 14 secs, it then transitions to an Am with the same pattern.

Got to take the dog out be back in a bit.

Thanks I'll try it out.

If I'm thinking of the same part. I play it Em triad at the 7th fret dropping the pinky on the b string on the up stroke Them move up to Am on the 12th fret and play the same pattern.

Let's see if I can make this readable.

Em................Am.

[edit] Nope. I think if you press Quote, it lines all the numbers up properly though.

I'm not sure if it's correct, or it's a bad habit I've picked up, but I finish on the B when playing the second fill.

Thank you all for the assistance.

If you select the tablature and press the "code" button it should display in a non-proportional font, but I don't think that is working right now. I'll try to get that fixed.

Aha! Marvellous!

That's a great work around until I can fix the code formatting. Nice job!

Hang on, 8 seconds in? I'm on the wrong bit. Whatever

It's just an E minor, and then switching to A minor with the rest of the band. If I'm playing by myself, I'll just loosely catch the open strings with my spare fingers while I'm picking the rhythm part.

I can ask Bob Spickard if you'd like. But the song has Em to Am B to C B to C B to Am to Em except when coming out of the piano solo the guitar plays Am G F G Am G F to an Emajor chord while Brian does the riff on the E string then back to Em These are the main chords while the Wurlitzer plays backing chords and notes. FYI, I went to High School and grew up with the Chantays.

BTW, I just tested it and the code formatting does display tab correctly. Just paste your tab into the box, select it, then click the "code" button (to the left of the smiley face) on the toolbar.

A moment to reflect on how lucky we are to have Brian?
