I've used this Martin 5-18 on Slacktone albums, and also solo guitar stuff. I use extra light strings which give a more 3-D type sound. Used on "For a Few Guitars More", "Fist Full of Dollars", and also, "Ace of Spades" on the Link Wray tribute CD, "Guitar Ace".

Yes, my faves, especially with bass and drums. I would also like to get another maybe a size or two larger. The 5-18 is also cool because I can carry on the plane to avoid the lifetime supply of toothpicks syndrome.

Dig it. I haven't owned a full D or Jumbo sized acoustic in years. They never work as well for me for recording or like you said Dave, playing with a band. Those bigger bodies were designed to compete with banjos and such.
No banjos here. LOL
Cheers,
Jeff

yeah, all of that low-end just gets EQ'd out, and what you're left with is not always effective, and expressive sounding.
I have a Gretsch 6182 that has a cool midrange that can cut pretty well. It's an archtop with a DeArmond at the neck.

Since you mention the O series Martins, I'll chime in with my acoustic, a 2012 OMCPA4R (Rosewood body/Spruce top, Fishman F1 Analog electronics, which I rarely employ) which I love and of which I hope to become a much better player. Sometimes I'll just hit a note or chord and let it ring...
Cheers,
Rick

One of the most basic but greatest joys in what we do!
Nice Guitar Rick!

Dave and BJB mentioned archtops,
I've owned much better "quality" archtops but this old late 40's Silvertone records really well for percussive mids and top end.
Huge neck.

Dave,
See you and raise you, LOL, although yours is in MUCH better condition....
'53 6190-1 that my in-laws found at a yard sale for $3.00
Needs bindings and such but sounds divine. Love these old Dynasonics!

Mine, and maybe yours, has a concentric tone control. Center is neutral, one way cuts highs, other way cuts lows. I want to maybe copy that to use in other guitars. Off topic, but the Supro guitars have a special tone control for the bridge pickup that gave Link Wray a special sound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlqZul_rkhQ

Just picked this one up today. 1957 National 1155E. A Gibson J-50 with an awesome Valco neck.
This guitar is CLEAN. Other than some wear to the back of the neck and the checking on the top it is in great shape. No cracks, no chips, no nothing.

I was moving things around this weekend and finally took a pic.
Nothing special - Fender Del Mar & Early Winters (Ovation) backpacker guitar, both bought in the early 80's.
