There's a very complicated mythology behind the fingerboard on the SRV Stratocaster! The original specs indicated Brazilian Rosewood but right when the SRV came out, that type of rosewood wound up being listed as endangered. Some of the earliest SRV's did have Brazilian rosewood fingerboards, but that's about it. Unfortunately, Fender kept 'Brazilian rosewood' in the specifications for another 5 or 6 years before the changed it to pao ferro in their catalog and website.
The next complication is that the SRV model was about to be released when Stevie Ray Vaughan passed away in 1990. As a result, the SRV Stratocaster was not released until 1992. This would not have been a complication if Fender hadn't contributed to the confusion by using old 1989 serial number decals (SE9xxxxx) on the first few years of SRV's!
Hence the mythology: people see the 1989 serial number and knowing that the SRV Stratocaster was delayed due to Stevie's death, they believe it must be a rare early prototype! Therefore, they assume the fingerboard is Brazilian because it wasn't restricted until 1992.

Of course, many of us here are not interested in the early SRV Stratocasters, but the story does show that most guitar players can't tell the difference between easily available pao ferro and impossible-to-get Brazilian rosewood. If it's so hard to tell the difference, should we really be worried about it?

I know that I've never seen, or heard of, the color before now (but I'm not a Fender historian either). I've only heard it used in relation to grill cloth color.
As far as I know, he specifically requested this colour for his JM model. Not sure if it's really a signature thing, although his Yamaha model is available in "Translucent Blood Red": maybe he just likes colours with "blood" in them  There's one or two vids out there on the Net where he talks about how he likes the oxblood because of how the colour seems to change from red to almost black depending on the lighting. And I have to agree with him, it's a stunningly beautiful colour.
I've seen some (non-metallic) oxblood Gibsons before but never a Fender, so I'm guessing it's a first for them. At least for standard production models.

Fender already had a "Midnight Wine" metallic color that looks quite close.

Got to pick up one of these jazzmasters for a few minutes last night. First impression: too heavy. So many of the newer ones are. Otherwise, felt REALLY nice. especially the trem. Feels much better to me than the typical JM trem. I'd love to find a little lighter example of this guitar.

just try one this morning on a drri !
waou! it is really sweet guitar ,ligth to my taste i have a cij jag that it is more heavy
the sound is really good even with the set up in the mag (no set up for me) the string were a bit hight and the neck too much bow ,but with the string on it ,i think 1046 ? it is a really good axe ,if i didn't make my own guitar i will buy it immediatly price 1268 € and 1100 in a another store
the color is fantastic ,very deep and metallic,binding ,blocks, avri componement ,it is a nice jazzmaster ,i can't compare to a 65 ,no stores near have one ,but this one is far from the classic players ,jM purple or another japan that i have try
the profile of the neck is really like i love ,not too thin ,but not a bat
for the price with a case moreover is a steal

I totally agree, it's a great guitar for the money. And I don't find it all that heavy: I put mine on the scale and it weighs about 3,6 kgs (a little over 7 lbs) which makes it just a tad lighter than my MIM Strat and my CIJ Jag which both weigh in at 3,8 kgs
