I see that good budget hotel options are just disappearing, so I highly advice to hurry up. Most of the places that I considered are already fully booked.
AirBnB is worth checking; it looks like there are still some reasonably priced places near Terraza Mascagni. I used to be a bit dubious about airbnb, but the place we stayed at last year was fine. It is definitely a good idea to find somewhere near the festival site, however much or little alcohol you consume. It's a drag having to "commute"!
My family and I stayed on in Livorno for another couple of days after the festival last year. One day we went to a beach down the coast and the other day we visited Lucca. There are lots of great places to visit near Livorno - as well as the town itself.I have also booked my trains to Livorno and back. Is anyone else coming by train? Worth considering, especially if you fancy staying overnight somewhere (nice) on the way there and back. Probably not too practical for visitors from outside Europe though
I use both booking.com and airbnb, surely some nice options can be found on both platforms. In 2018 I’ve booked on airbnb a room in a beautiful old villa on a seaside, but during last years booking.com performed better.
There’s a train connection from Frankfurt to Milano and then to Pisa but it costs more than plane and takes whole day)
