Good idea re: contacting the museum.
I can take a look at kickstarter unless someone here would like to,,sooner the better

www.northofmalibu.com

Took a look at kickstarter..this could be a great way to go but not sure if what we want to do here would be considered a "project" by their defenition,
If someone here wants to set it up I'll get the ball rolling with a healthy bit of seed $

www.northofmalibu.com

Before setting up anything a conversation should be had with Steve Soest and Eddies brother John. Obviously they have to be on board. The guitar will be on sale at a guitar show the weekend of the 24th of may.
The musuems to be consulted with should be:
Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum,
or
http://www.surfingheritage.org/

Just spoke with Steve..cool guy.
The most interest out there is for Eddie's Jaguar. The asking price may be quite a bit higher then we thought..but that is the starting price +/-.
We talked for maybe half an hour and he knows where I/we stand on this.
There will be prices posted soon..likely in groups..guitars..amps...pedals..etc.
Right now it's a hold tight mode and we'll see what surfaces

www.northofmalibu.com

The bass player for the Tremblors (ShaunNecro) has a speaker that was owned by Eddie...I should bug him into coming back from his forum hibernation to post about it.

R.I.P. Eddie.

The Tremblors on MySpace!

update from Steve:
here's the latest list, with prices that was sent out to the first responders. please feel free to post it wherever you feel is appropriate ! list #2 will be available next week steve

How are we doing on reaising funds to put Eddie's Jaguar in the museum? Will we be able to raise enough to also put one of his amps there also? I have not seen anything about how much we have gathered in pledges so far. Can anyone fill me in on that?

Thanks,
Norm

I must have missed this while I was at the Instro Summit. Where do I contribute?

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Honestly, put the $7.5K(tax will be added as well) towards a charity that Eddie would have liked. I understand the importance of getting a cool piece like that in the museum. The guitar also deserves to be played! I also hate to demean that guitar or the importance of Eddie, but it wasn't Eddie's gigging or record guitar from the '60s. If it was played on any of those original recordings... holy moly. Now if we could find one of those... Somebody has got 'em.

So his jag jumped from 4k and some change to 7.5k??
And we have to call and beg for prices on other items??
Cry

This bugs me, I hope they can work out something better for the museum.

IMO.

Guys,

If the Jaguar goes for more than we can raise, I have an alternate idea to bounce off you. What about taking our contributions to buy Eddie's two Showman amps. Leave them with SG101 to be used at the Convention each year. Looks like $3,400 would get them both into our hands. A possible alternative if we fail to land the Jaguar.

Talk to you later,
Norm

Jake makes a good point...without writing a short novel about it I've pulled back on the idea about trying to get the Jag for the museum...if ya see something that moves you by all means go for it.
There is some magic in that Jag and would be great if it could be blueprinted but that said the magic was mainly in Eddie's hands and soul...I'm gonna go play Squad Car now as loud as I can

www.northofmalibu.com

Jake makes an excellent point. Eddie only owned the Jag since the 1990's. It's a special guitar but not as special was the guitars Eddie gigged with in the 60's. I have obtained one of Eddie's Fender Quad Reverb Amps. This was one of his regular gigging amps in the 70's and 80's. Eddie told me he used this amp for the South Bay Surf Revival gig in 1986 and the Rendezvous Reunion gig in 2000. It's a little rough right now. I plan to convert in back to it's original condition with the original Fender speakers. I'm not sure if the grill can be saved at this point. It's a beast. Very loud. My hope is to make it available as part of the back line when needed. Many thanks to John Bertrand, Eddie's brother. Here is a first look.

I would not want to see that Jag not being played, and hanging on a wall in a museum. And the Surf Museum is in a state of distress right now.
Needing money in a dire situation to stay open.
Putting another guitar in there is the last thing they are thinking about.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Tim, has there been any discussion about putting out some of Eddie's unreleased stuff, regardless of the genre? I sure would be interested in hearing what he was up to.

Hell, I would donate just to keep it in the hands of sg101 or a trusted member of the surf community. I don't want to see this go to someone like me who wouldn't use it for years. I'd love to see it become "community property", and have it used to record a song on the next slacktone album, see it played by satan's pilgrims, maybe even get to play it some day, even if only for a minute. I know it's not being written off, but I view Eddie's more recent playing and tone as some of his best, and this was a huge part of that. I would pay to see this in the hands of someone who can see to it that it is under good care and being played.. BTD, Senn, Brian... Otherwise it will probably go to a collector who may or may not pull it off it's sacred place on the wall from time to time to play for 5 minutes.

Just my thoughts.

IMO.

It will 100% go to a surf community member or fan of Eddies, hopefully they are a player. Nobody is paying $7500 or a refretted '65 Jag in white with a non-matching headstock.

Discussed with Eddies brother John last night. Eddie has a ton of unreleased material. What Eddie played for me was quite good and non surf. His brother would like to someday release it. There is a lot of work to be done first. At the present I cant say if that will happen.

Took the Quad reverb for a test spin. LOUD! 2 is too loud to play in the house. Good on board reverb. Poor tremelo. Master volume not hooked up.
As far as the jag, it will likely end up in the hands of a private collector in the next week or 2.
