Unfortunately I’m bailing on the Echo show. Cry The Echo is just a little too for me to make on a Friday after work and considering traffic. Have a blast everybody.

I have 2 tickets to the Bimbo's show in San Francisco on May 11th. Unfortunately I got my weekends mixed up and won't be able to use them. If anyone here wants them, they're yours. All I request is that you don't resell them. Also you can buy me a drink at the SG101 Convention this year. Smile

Send me a PM if interested.

PM sent back. I need an email ID to forward the PDF tickets to. Enjoy !!

Saw them last night. Show not completely sold out, but close. My wife and I took my 16-year-old son. I hadn't seen them since the early- or mid-1990s (1994, maybe?)

They played in the middle of two rather uninteresting acts, both indie bands of some wretched variety or another.

Overall, I would say that the show was okay. Not bad by any means, however, I was not blown away. I not terribly impressed with the bulk of the guitar playing (or tones) I must say. It was intentionally heavy sounding, and with much distortion in that punk rock sort of way. It seemed a tad sloppy which felt inappropriate for this band. It needed to be tight and sharp.

It is hard to say this, cause I dig the band, but they sounded like they were trying to sound like Agent Orange, or something. Of course Agent Orange is a much better Agent Orange than MOAM. They did play a nice version of XL-3 and maybe a few other faves, but that was pretty much the extent of their surfy instro tunes. Otherwise, lots of (mostly unintelligible) vocal numbers. My wife commented that Daikaiju is doing the costumed, crytpic, super-loud-and-crunchy, is-it-surf-or-not? schtick much more effectively nowadays. I agree completely.

YMMV, my 2¢, etc. Please be aware that a lot of others seemed to really be liking this show. In fact, the crowd responded quite favorably to the band, I would say. Video below:

Call me old, angry, etc...
But zzzzzzzz.
I'm over it.

Great show at The Echo, first time seeing them and it was awesome! Played lots of their old intros, maybe four vocals but I liked those too. Deke Dickerson joined them for one song. Crowd at the end was stage diving and crowd surfing. Great finale, I almost want to drive to SF for the next show.

Yeah, what a great show! Tons of old songs, mostly instro, super high energy! There were moments when they could've been tighter, but whatever. The crowd was really into it too. All around great vibe. A really fun show.

They aren't the MoAM of their early years, but it's still really really good. I think the comment above about them trying to sound like Agent Orange is a bit silly. I think they sound like themselves and what they've evolved into. But its all subjective.

Someday they wont be around again, and the music world will be lesser for it. Catch them and support them and enjoy them while you can.

Both my wife and I really enjoyed the show.
The show was mostly instro, mostly "classic" MoAM? songs.
Great energy, great visual show, and it was good to see the real Coco back in action (he balances out Birdstuff's attitude).
I thought the sound was pretty good, and they were tighter than I've seen them on the last tour.
I never got the impression the MoAM were a super-tight band live, so I don't know where the complaints come from.
There was a great Theremin (Coco) Vs. guitar (Deke Dickerson) dual, that ended up in a flaming Theremin.
I thought the 2nd guitar player, Avona Nova, was very good.
Some songs could have been played faster in my opinion.
There was no Tesla coil, since most clubs have a lot of digital equipment these days and it turns out the Tesla Coil fries it. They had to pay damages to several clubs, so they had to retire it.

Jeff and JP - you were missed and I think it was a mistake not to come. I believe you would have really enjoyed the show.

Well,
the last time thru town on tour,
I saw them 2 times.
and I just saw them at the geek fest.

I was going to go to a Tequila Worms show in Fullerton
last night, 5 miles from me. I stayed home from that too.

Totally different vibe than Geek Fest. Having Coco back made all the difference.

The Scimitars

I saw them 5 or 6 times in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Im good having missed this show.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

MoAM? were really good at the ol' Echo. The 'Deke vs. theremin' segment was a real highlight! The light show w/space footage was really well presented. And the new girl can rock out! Being the geezwad that I am, i saw The Ramones about 13 times 1976-89 , and sonically, the Mosrite guitar thru a Marshall live channeled the sound of hysteria ,actually similar to girls screaming, with all the ensuing sonic overtones. Starcrunch, with his Mosrite gets a pretty awesomely trashy tone, not quite as 'wall-of-sound', but definitely 'the sound of excitement! There really is something about a Mosrite played LOUD (see old B52's too)! MoAM remain a truly compelling live act. I was having second thoughts about seeing them ( see bigtikidude's comments above) but they really did deliver the goods!

Just got back from the Vancouver show. Took the wife, a good buddy, and a couple amazing nephews. Everyone had a great time. Both Avona Nova and Victor Vector were featured on 2nd guitar. Thanks for this site for making me aware of this show.

I hope it was enjoyable. Did they have their full stage setup? I know the tour has been having some problems and they were forced to abandon their tour van and fly in to the Vancouver show, so I assume they had to leave their new wall of flat screens behind. I also believe they had an amp tragedy last week as well.

They definitely didn't have the full set up. What they did have were plenty of cool guitars, a rockin' Theremin, and energy to spare. The show ran 50 minutes, and they left folks happy and wanting more. They were backed up by The Octopus Project last time they were here (2011). That's a band I'd like to see more of.

Yeah, we surely took a page from their playbook. Play hard, fast, and end it before it gets stale. I can't remember the punk artist that said this, but I heard it years ago and took it to heart. 'If you can't win them over in one hour, you aren't going to do it in an hour and a half.'

We are unfortunately not going to be able to make MOAM in Portland at the Doug Fir tonite. If anyone in PDX without tix would like ours, shoot me a PM and I'll email the printable pdf tix to you.

I was at the Echo show with Ran,Dale,Ted and Insect Dave.It was the first time Ive seen MOAM? and I was not disappointed! After the show I got a great picture with CoCo and Ran.I was wearing CoCo's space helmet, and he made Ran and I official Astromen...what a blast! : ) I can understand why TiKiDude doesn't go to all the shows...too much of a good thing can ruin it.I talked to Starcrunch about mak'in the San Diego(Casbah)show next time and he said they would try to make it happen.Look'in forward to the Insect Surfers CD release party.Dave said he would post it...right Dave? : )

I am really looking forward to this! MOAM? were one of the few third-wave-bands, whose records were widely available when I started to get interested in surf music (this was before online shopping and filesharing became a common thing) which meant that I listened to them quite often.

But I never saw them live, which is about to change now. Excited!
