Just got this amp in on a trade and I must say I'm quite impressed! Anyone have any experience with these for surf music? I went in on the deal because MM has the reputation for being really clean (Hell, it's Leo Fender, why should it not be?) and at first just thought I'd be able to use it for practices and what-not. Now I'm thinking about playing out with it. It's THAT good! Think a Deluxe Reverb with balls for headroom. I'm a happy camper!

I have always liked Music Man amps, and i also played with one with 2x10 a few years ago. The amp is squeezing 65 watts out of two 6l6 tubes that are designed to handle 50w, so i have heard that it's a little hard on the tubes. The preamp is transistor.

I think the to clean criticism come from the fact that it's impossible to get a warm tube sound with a mild overdrive like in an old Fender or a Mesa Boogie. But if all you need is a loud and clean amp, i think it will be very good.

I have that same Music Man model, and have owned it for a long, long time. As other fine amps have come and gone, I have always held onto the Music Man, because it is such a workhorse, with a great combination of features - easy to carry, very loud if you need it to be, good reverb and trem, and great clean tones. It has been a good amp to do speaker swaps with - Weber California and Michigan speakers sound outstanding in it, and so did a Jensen Neo 100-watt, which made the amp even lighter.

nice..... I'd play that all day.

Thanks guys! As the day has progressed, my fondness for this amp has increased.

Matt, do you think it's the same as this amp?

I've never been a big Clapton fan, but i loved the cover of this album when I was a young teen and just starting to get interested in guitar. Sitting on a sofa with a Strat, plugged into a small amp next to it - well, life seems pretty good.... Smile

Ivan, that looks to be the same amplifier, but it could be the 4/10 configuration. Same amp, but with the different speaker configuration. I think he was endorsed by MM in the 70s. Check out the cool-guy cigarette on his Explorer!

Congrats on the new amp. Looks nice and clean too.

Cats 'n' Strats, 'cause that's how I roll - I eat reverb for breakfast!

Yup, nice amp

I just picked a 2-12 Cabinet to try for a different sound.

I have been using a MM B100 Bass amp since the 80's, It came with a 15" EV loaded cabinet, in my favorite Color Blonde (actually called pinwhale white)

Does it have the 12ax7 preamp tube or is it all Soild state.
There is a trick to setting the bais on MM amps.

Bob

Bob, it's the early version with the 12ax7. sounds GREAT!

Morbius, I can't seem to sell stuff, but everyone seems to have really cool stuff to trade. Smile

I've owned a 65 watt MM head since 1979. Talk about a workhorse! I play it through a Vox 2-12 speaker bottom. It's awesome. Don't know what I'd do without it.

How's your digestion now?

I use a '78 musciman rp115 as my main gigging amp, & it's great! I read it was designed for steel guitar, so it's super clean. It's been dropped off the dolly, fell over in the car, & still keeps going. Mine has a SS pre-amp & el-34's, my tech said they're the best current tubes to handle this amp's high voltage.
