So before Surf for me there was the beloved "Instrumental" track on whatever album I was listening to. I was always drawn to these even before I knew Surf existed. So perhaps this has been done before on this forum, but what is your favorite non-surf instrumental track? Here's one of mine from a band that I have always loved and it's their nod to the Surf scene as far as I can tell!

Jeremy

I have too many to name now, but my introduction to electric guitar instrumentals was the tune "Back At The Blue Whale" from the original Dark Shadows soundtrack LP in the late '60s. I literally wore that track out trying to learn it! I believe it was written to sound sorta "surfish" and either the tape was slowed or detuning was going on because the song sounds in Eb too. With the advent of the Internet, I contacted one of the DS fan clubs to find out who the guitarist was and she told me the composer for the show, Robert Cobert, couldn't remember who it was . All I know about the tune is that it was probably recorded in England sometime prior to 1966. All of Mr. Cobert's music for that show influenced me greatly, but that song in particular was mind-blowing guitar to me then and it still is now! If anyone knows anything else about it, please let me know...

Wow, loved that, very surfy, yet desert/spaghetti sounding too.
I have a bunch of Fu Manchu, but hadn't been keeping up on their releases, will need to get that one when I get a Job.

Yeah Fu Manchu is totally awesome still. I think the Singer sold his Jazzmaster on Ebay a few years ago for some Charity thing. They were all playing those Acrylic Dan Armstrong guitars at the time. Can't get better than Evil Eye though, I've always wanted to do a surf cover of that!

P.S. - Ruhar I really enjoyed that second song and the last song!

Some not yet mentioned. Leaving out all the classical, jazz, etc., for a more popular version of instrumental. Also leaving out WDR Big Grin

Here's mine

Oingo Boingo hardly had any instrumentals but my favorite song of theirs is an unreleased instro called "Woke Up Clipped" (sometimes "Sluggo's Instrumental"). It wasn't on any of their official releases and the only recordings that exist are live bootlegs from the early 80s.

Hot Summer Comes Again!
Let's Go Beach! Let's Go Beach!

I'll just throw out 3 instrumentals I tend to really dig; in no particular order..."Rally Pack" by The Zip Codes, from the 1964 (Liberty Records) album Mustang, "Jungle Fever" by The Tornados and "Popcorn" by Hot Butter.

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

Jeremy,
Kinda funny that you post about Fu Manchu,
I am always torn on what Kinda band I want to be in.
As much as I like Surf. I would be happy as a Clam in a stoner rock band like Fu Manchu, or even the heavier stuff.
Of course I would really like to have an Instro band that had the heavy stuff, and other influences, spy, space, spaghetti, etc...

The music starts about 1:10 into the video.

I love this band. This track comes from their Yanqui UXO album.

Godspeed You Black Emperor has blown my mind repeatedly, and even after hundreds of listens, they still do. This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

I've seen them live twice. I can't call their show a "concert". It's more of an "experience".

my 2 favourite non-surf, ,but instrumental artists:

Hello Jeremy,

My favorite non-surf instrumental? Surfing with the Alien by Satriani
