Permalink 15" guitar speaker for surf ?

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

Is there a good reason why? I don't see any one using them any more. Have heard good things about them. Smile

They are in Showmans... It pushes a lot of sound...

Certain speaker sizes really aren't important, way down on the list of important things.

Lots of people use them, including myself. Like Jake said, they push a lot of sound. It is a very beefy tone.

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

My 15" Weber California speakers have been outstanding in terms of delivering big, deep, and clear headroom, and never mushing out, even when pushed at outdoor gigs.

I will use one or two 2x15 cabs for a larger show..and a 1x15" (Gomez G Reverb) for clubs..JBL d130-f's I understand those Webers are very good also
As to why..spose' it started with Dick and Leo

I'm fond of describing the sound as "someone kicking you in the head with a velvet boot".
In other words: incredibly powerful, but warm. Gentle giant. OK enough with the cliches...

I use them all the time. I have single and dual Showman amps with JBLs in them and it's the only amp I'll use out-doors. Nothing compares to the 15" JBL and the tone-ring, in my opinion. I favor the single with the tone ring over the dual, which is why my dual is for sale.

There are also a few reissue Twins with a single 15 that sound really nice. Too bad they can't put a tone-ring on that!

15" speakers for everything. That's what I mostly play these days. Fat, swampy sound.

If one is good, two must be better, no? Wink

Cool four 15's are even better than two!!!

love the moaii in the video!!!! Thumbs Up

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

Hello Bluez,
I run my Dual Showman Reverb through a 2x15 cab with JBLs. I really like its show. Just too loud for home use.

Talk to you later,
Norm

Been using 2X15" JBL D-130's for years. But anywhere outside the surf community (and country/lap steel) they are not very popular for guitar. That's probably you won't see them in Norway very often Smile

The Scimitars

I have a 15" Jensen in my Fender Vibrasonic. It is great with the baritone guitar!

I use a TRRI in a piggyback cabinet with a single 15" Eminence Commonwealth. It sounds great for Surf.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

yeah,15"........I picked up a Traynor Bassmate 1-15 combo ( handwired ,el84s, all tube)for home use and smaller gigs...awesome.Really gets the bottom end-low mids when you palm mute....that velvet boot comment is about right.
Wish I had a Showman cab 1-15 w/tone ring!

I have a vintage Fender Showman 1x15" Tone Ring cab and have been thinking about converting a TRRI to a head unit to use with.

METEOR IV on reverbnation

I tried a boogie with a ported cabinet, it was just a 12" EV but it had a very nice deep and firm bass for a 12". Dosent have the coolness of a 15".

+1 for the Weber California series, those cats know what they're doing

I bet MOJO or another company has a head box that the TRRI electronics would fit into...not sure if the reverb tank in the combo would fit into a head only configuration?
Of course you could just plug the showman cab into the extension speak jack and have both open back cab and closed for both tones...nice.

Go for it bluez, I have a 2x15 cab , Weber Chicago Alnicos. Being pushed by the Gomez Surfer it`s a bulldozer !
