wait don't answer that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjMiSMxJGto&feature=related

before I even knew who was involved in it,
I was like yikes, the vocals are all out of tune.
then the guitarist steps into the picture.
it all makes sense now.

I'm sorry to be a hater, but man oh man,
how can some people be so oblivious to how bad they are.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

wow, pretty incredible

Please, someone let me in on this joke. What is the history of this band?

THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary.

This specific band?
not really sure, but Merrel Fankhauser
was in the Impacts (surf band) in the early 60s.
they had 2 hits that I know of, "Steel Pier" and a song called "Wipe Out"
but it wasn't the Surfaris "Wipe Out",
a little more info and a pic of the album here:
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-impacts-p23801

Then Merrel went on to many different rock band styles.
see here: http://www.merrellfankhauser.com/frames.html

I suspect that there may have been chemicals involved in those days
Shock but that is just speculation on my part.

At Some point he moved to Hawaii and did a lot of acoustic music,
and then moved back to the Central Calif. coast.

It seems he has had a few different bands and dabbled in a mix of music styles, mainly being Classic Rock, and Surf covers,
and "Tiki Music" which I think is the worst of his crimes,
as His Tiki Music sounds like a bad Version of Raffi (kids music guy)
here is "we love tikis"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKr-WKT4aiA

I also saw a video of him doing wipeout,(the Surfaris version)
and basically implying that he recorded it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwdoTwhysVo&feature=related

Simply bizarre
I can't get my head around this guy.

He has or had a TV show where he has interviewed some Surf Music legends.
but I have never seen it on PBS or anywhere else, but there are some clips of that on youtube.

That's the international surf music LEGEND that is "the leader of the instrumental group The Impacts who had the international hit “Wipeout”, one of the innovators of surf music and a unique guitar player whose sound has delighted listeners for over 35 years. I love it when people call themselves legends. Sorry for the negativity but that guy has no shame.

eeeeeeeeeesh,,, its all so awkward and embarrassing, i feel terrible for his band mates and everyone involved in his videos

Doug,

you should have put all that in quotes, saying Merrel Says:
Wink

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Tripe. But, IMO, the worst problem with this sad tune is that there is a big time offset between the rhythm section and the vocals and lead guitar tracks. Those parts are many milliseconds late. My guess is that they recorded this direct to a poorly-tuned interface on a Windows PC using headphones and paid no attention to the inherent latency of that method.

SSIV

oh dear......... Shock

I hate that man so much...

I was waiting for Jake to chime in.

Puke

Looks like he briefly opened a sonic portal to another dimension at the 1:09 mark. Pretty hard trick to pull off. Don't be h8tin!

I came. I saw. I left.

Well, since we all seem to be goin' there...here's some more fuel Stir the Pot

Insect Surfers
The Tikiyaki Orchestra
The Scimitars
Lords Of Atlantis
Fiberglass Jungle - Surf Radio

The Impacts are pretty solid...was this guy full time on those recordings?

Yep. Their steel guitarist was the main songwriter, though, IIRC.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.
