A French TV documentary about surfing (in the US), made in 1964.

i'm re-watching the two seasons of 'better off ted' on netflix. it's even better the second time through. too bad it was cancelled. for anyone who liked 'arrested development', you'll probably like this too.

Just watched a squirrel with a snoot full of moss (to reinforce his home presumably) make a jump up my galvanized steel antenna mast and then launch onto the roof for a short-cut to the big spruce out front. Got above 0 so the fauna is moving. Athletic little sucker...

I just finished watching an interview on youtube with Mark Farner. The guy is still using his JBL D-130s in his touring rig. He said that he thought he was the only guitar player still into 15" speakers........pretty funny, if he only knew.

Really neat interview.

Mrs K and I saw their first concert show at the first Atlanta Pop Festival...... weird, boy has that been a long time.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

"I'm getting closer to my hooommmmmmmme...."

Great to know he's still around. Sitting in the base waiting area watching that freedom bird taxi in I couldn't get that out of my head. Laughing

Muse Live at Rome Olympic (2013) - holy cow, this is absolutely amazing. There were probably something like 100,000 people at this show, and they seemed to be ALL going absolutely NUTS the entire show! It's remarkable that a newer guitar band can achieve this sort of popularity in this day and age, but God bless 'em! They seemed to have picked up all the lessons of the great stadium bands of the past quarter century, and owe a huge debt to U2 and Queen in particular. The stage was absolutely unbelievable - gigantic and simply a marvel of modern technology. And Matt Bellamy's guitar playing I think is really the epitome of cutting-edge modern guitar style, incorporating elements of effects-driven-texture-painting, heavy modern fuzz, shred, 7-string low-end riffery, electronica, and of course, as most of us know, even surf. Truly impressive stuff, even if Bellamy's wailing vocal stylings do tend to wear on me after a while. But I'm still amazed by what that band has been able to accomplish....

I caught this show on the Palladia cable channel, which is where I also last night watched Neil Young's Journeys doc/concert film from 2011. It shows Young playing a solo show (truly solo - he's the only one on stage the entire show) in Toronto in 2010, and it's the exact opposite of the above Muse show - just an old guy on a bare-bones stage, no gimmicks whatsoever, but equally as mesmerizing and impressive. Beautiful songs, performed from the heart, with great deal of conviction. Loved it.

Funny, I was watching the "Hullabaloo" DVD by Muse just yesterday (filmed 2001 in Paris) and I can only recommend it for similar reasons. The band was a huge thing in my circle of friend, when I was in high school, and I still think the first three albums are absolutely stunning.

With "Supermassive Black Holes" they started developing in a direction that isn't really my cup of tea, and around the same time they also started to expand their stage show and brought in additional musicians. During the time of "Hullabalo" they were really just three people on stage totally rocking out.
