Goto Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 Next

I just received my MicroPro 200 about 30 minutes ago. Upon opening the box, was blown away by the aesthetics, and even more blown away by the sounds I've initially gotten. The low end from that 8" speaker is nothing short of incredible. This little beast sounds absolutely H-U-G-E Pretty easy to dial-it-in right out of the box. The reverb was not real impressive through the LO instrument input, but definitely sounded a lot better with through the HI input with the dwell rolled back to +/- 10 o'clock. Initial impression is that it will not replace a tank, but I need to do some more experimenting before passing final judgement. (I've only played through it for about 20 minutes). Absolutely a serious professional tool, and lightweight (a real plus for old geezers with back issues like me).

I'm now gonna read the manual, and then put it through some more serious scrutiny once I know a little more about the details. Will advise as I play through the amp more. First impression: GREAT amp!

Bob-when I get mine we'll talk. Unless they made a change in the 'verb since my Alpha, I think we can fine tune it for you.
That Reverend of yours just ups the tone ante!

Thanks, Skip. I had only played it for about 20 minutes when I made the original post. I've been on it for about an hour since, and I've dialed in some much better reverb tones. It is a killer amp. I'm gonna do some A/B tests against some of my tube gear, and run it through some cabinets with larger/traditional speakers. I am spoiled: Gomez G-spring, vintage Fender amps, Reverend amps, etc. But I am EXTREMELY impressed with the MicroPro 200.

I run the Limiter at 12:00, Reverb, Dwell, and Presence at 1:00, and the "Path" is set on "Mix".
Bass & Treble at 3:00, Mid at 12:00.
All my guitars except my Gretsch Tennessee Rose and 6-string bass have single coils; and the Gretches are TWANGY 'buckers.

This is all making me sad & jealous I didn't jump on the first 50 offer!

Matt, I am sending you a PM.

You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing.

Did you guys get a tracking number when they shipped yours? I placed my order yesterday but only received the order confirmation email.

Thank you, Skip! That's close to what I had arrived at, but definitely better.

The trem on this beast sounds really nice. I like the limiter a lot too. This is not your run-of-the-mill amp. Quilter Labs has really done their homework, and added some great extra features, some kind of unusual, some not. Among them: 4 paths for the reverb;, and a dwell control; a boost with variable DB volume AND 4 different voices (scoop, bright, loud, hot); Hi and Lo instrument inputs; active tone controls (cut or boosts EQ); the aforementioned Overdrive limiter; 6 modes (clean, Full EQ, Classic 60's amps, Tweed, and Mini (Pignose); Back-lit front control panel; isolated direct out; and a killer 6 button footswitch. You can go to the website for the full run-down.

Danny and I both used our new Quilters for a live set on KALW radio in SF this evening. I'd had a bit of time earlier in the day to futz with it, but Danny took his straight out of the box and into the studio.

I'm impressed with these amps. I was able to dial in a sound I like pretty quickly (I used the "Tweed" setting as tweed Fenders are voiced similarly to the subsequent brownface amps), and I'd say there's a fairly reasonable facsimile of drip in the reverb - the best I've heard in a modern solid state combo by a long shot. I used the onboard reverb; Danny brought his tank.

It seems to me that with the limiter, you can use the boost to create a fuzz-esque tone, too.

I look forward to spending more time with this amp.

Mel

PS. anyone want to buy a suddenly superfluous 70s Vibro Champ?

I should have also mentioned that I use the "Classic" (Blackface) amp model. I must admit, that once I found the sound I liked, I quit experimenting. Now you've got my interest.
@ Mel-I now have 3 amps that are superfluous (18-60watt 1 X 10 and 1 X 12 combos), but I can't bring myself to get rid of them. Fortuantely, the Quilter doesn't take much space, so La Reya isn't complaining yet.

I played thru an earlier model at the HB Surfing Museum and I was very impressed with the sound but I have to say I much preferred the cosmetics of both the earlier models. I can understand that a new technology should have a new look and I would still like to own one but I am wondering how many of the bands here would leave their beloved Fenders at home on gig day. I would but then I'm usually in a minority.

I hadn't checked on this forum for months because of other interests. This has me excited at less than $700 but not so much at $900. I missed out of the first fifty but am wondering if there will be another special price. Pretty impressive from the videos I watched.

I dunno. When the time comes that I'm looking to get an amp to record with and play out, I could go with the traditional choices and spend a lot more, or get one of these amps and be able to use the same amp to practice, record and play out with. I think that makes it a good deal. Especially if I can make it sound as good as Mel and Danny did on that radio program.

I'm curious that Danny brought a reverb tank and Mel didn't. But I'm guessing you can't get a crash out of kicking a digital reverb effect unless they've added a motion sensor to the cabinet that crashes if the reverb is switched on.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Simple explanation Noel. Mel plays a Mosrite type guitar and keeps it dry to medium wet, but never drippy. I play rhythm guitar and do a lot of Astronauts style muted drip parts, thus I have to have a tank. The onboard reverb is fine for Mel.

I'm back playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta

(Shush! Don't tell anyone. Maybe this will lead to an increase in available vintage Fender tube amps, a drop in price or both.) Big Grin

The sensor for a digital reverb crash would be a cool idea, if it had a randomizer in the crash intensity Smile

I'm probably going to sell my Super Champ XD once I get the Quilter MP200. Don't have any vintage Fenders anymore.

The Quilter MicroPro 200 amps served High Tide very well last night as we performed the Ventures Christmas Album.

I cannot believe the amout of power and punchy low-end these amps produce.

The rest of the videos from the set can be seen by going to the Show Announcement Forum.

"Hello Girls!"

I got the Fedex message this afternoon that my MP200 is on the way. I should have it on Thursday. I feel like I did in 1976 on Christmas Eve, waiting to get a Stretch Armstrong. I never got one, so this will make up for my deprived childhood!

La Reya called to tell me the Fed Ex Santa brought my "First 50" MP-200 today. They brought it by yesterday, but no one was home to sign for it. Wish I had gotten it yesterday, because tonight I'm having a reunion with my late 90's Beatle/Brit Invasion band "Daytripper", and the MP-200 would blow their minds! At least I have a few days off over the Holidays to play with it.
Thanks Chris, Pat, and all the gang at Quilter Labs!
