Klas
A definite must have when it comes to instrumental fuzz surf is The Glaciers' GREAT 1964 From Sea To Ski album.

Thanks for the heads up on that one, Klas - sounds cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I'm sure you'll dig it as well! In the mean time, check out two of my favorite tunes on the album; "Aspen" and the almost disturbing "Holiday Hill".

Thanks! Looking forward to checking them out when I get home from work.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Thanks for putting up those sample, Klas. Your description had me really curious--those tracks are great and the second one "Holiday Hill" sounds downright apocalyptic! Reverb, fuzz _with _tremolo--very heavy sounds for 1964. This would be a good candidate for a re release.

From the Davie Allan thread ...

FenderShowman63
I wanna check out a bunch of Ventures tunes with some Fuzz. I only have the Japan 65' album, Ventures in Space, and I've heard the Batman album which kicks ass. I think the only songs that I'm familiar with that have fuzz are The Creeper, Ninth Wave, both of which I heard only because the Bomboras covered those. Fuzzy n' Wild, heard it because of the Ghastlys, and thers one more but I can remember. Back in my pre-Davie Allan listening days I always searched for Ventures Fuzz songs, but sort of gave up because of their huge catalog of music.

For Ventures fuzz, Norm's got a good list of songs on the first page of this thread. The following albums of theirs are your best bets:

Walk Don't Run, Vol. 2
The Fabulous Ventures
Surfing
Batman Theme
Guitar Freakout
Wild Things
Super Psychedelics

You should be able to find super-cheap copies of all of them on LP.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

are we talking Just vintage here, or 80's and 90's and modern bands too?

Jeff it really doesn't matter to me. I would really love to hear some of the older groups but I wanna hear some of the new bands as well.

I'll have to check out a bunch of the stuff already mentioned as well as the Ventures songs that Norm and the albums Warren mentioned. Also The Seeds is a very familiar name. I really wanna hear some Garage bands with some Fuzz as well.

As you know Jeff, I really dig the older stuff but feel free to throw in some new stuff. Like I mentioned, The Born Losers from Spain are a band from now that have a great Fuzz sound. Born Losers MySpace...

http://www.myspace.com/bornlosersbcn

The Born Losers are my favorite new band right now and have been for the past couple of months now or since I found out about them. Their song "The Devil's Racers" is a great tune. Sounds like it would of fit well as a "main theme" for a 60's Biker movie. And their song "Cycle Guitars" is just sick. It's seriously close to the Davie Allan & the Arrows sound. Check out some of their videos: here's a Fuzz Jam, Keep Searchin', The Black Rider, Heading to Nowhere, and House of the Rising Sun.

Also Zak posted some new songs on the myspace. You guys should definetly check those out for some much needed healthy dose of Fuzz... "Leeches!" is great, and "Homicide in Turn Town" is my favorite.

The Deadbeats

Here's some more additions for this Fuzz thread....

Gone by The Plastic Blues Band

and some 60's Mexican garage group that I just ran into called La Maquina del Sonido, which translates to the Sound Machine or The Machine of Sound. Anyways here's the song No Quiero Ya Volver

and another 60's Mexican instro group Los Barrocks. No fuzz but a cool song.

The Deadbeats

Two cool 1967 instro fuzz monsters not mentioned yet:

The Mussies "12 O'Clock, July"

The Graveyard Five "The Graveyard Five Theme"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roxdvtTKK-g

Not an instro but here's a great 1965 Dave Myers fuzz recording done shortly after his instrumental Surftones period:

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the Animated Egg.

That's a great album - there's three versions of it under three different band names, too. First it was The Id's The Inner Sounds of The Id, then it was the self-titled Animated Egg album, and finally it was overdubbed with an orchestra and released as 101 Strings' Astro Sounds From Beyond the Year 3000 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N86VWqaXPHU

There's a pretty great article about it here.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Very cool pics ther KickThetank. Buzz is pretty great!

Klas
The Angry Breed "Scum On Wheels"

Klas Im impressed. It's sounding pretty damn' good. I always though that The Angry Breed was a great name for a Fuzzstrumental band. That and The Devil's Angels or The Disciples. I love the Devil's Angel's(45' version) intro. You know I read that Davie and Larry Brown(his first drummer not the guy on the Blue's Theme cover) recorded some Biker they asked to come to the studio to rev his motorcycle. They dubbed that one guy a bunch of times to make it sound like a mob of bikers. They added that guys motorcyle sound to Cody's Theme(45' version) and The Devil's Angels(45' version). Do you got anymore songs?

Here's some more Fuzz....

Davie Allan & The Arrows

Born Losers 1st song isn't fuzz but the 2nd one Angel's Never Die is awesome.

Oh and let's not forget this lil' gem... Werewolves on Wheels by the Ghastlys Ones back in 98'. Full Throttle, Empty Bottle, Fuzzy n Wild haha I love the 2 drunk idiots.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the tune. I too think that the band name is perfect for instro fuzz and was happy that it wasn't already taken. We have 3 more songs recorded for the Angry Breed project, all scheduled for release later this spring.

Whoa... that Werewolves clip is going way back... from one of two shows we did with Arunas from the Markdowns on rhythm guitar. The Full Throttle clip is from the CIA club in North Hollywood and Fuzzy and Wild is from our "reunion" show... Those two loaded guys were having a good time but they kept slapping my cymbals which was getting on my nerves. Good times nevertheless!

People throwing balls at my head would get real annoying.I'm referring to the Werewolves On Wheels clip by the way. What were those things, and why did those people fill like it was cool to do such a thing? Only thing I want thrown at me when I'm playing is panties,or cash! Razz

Reverb, It's A Way Of Life!

They were just ping pong balls and that was the Markdowns idea to throw them. We thought it was pretty funny actually. Garrett impaled one on the spike of his German helmet! Hee... good times indeed.

Thanks, although it isn't a demo, haha. Anyway, we think the recording turned out pretty great and that the drums are sitting just right in the mix. I would say the drums are actually louder mixed than on most if not all songs on our two Surfites albums.
