Very sorry to hear this. Do you have pics and serial numbers you can share here and elsewhere? As others have already said, taking them around to pawn shops and such is a good idea. I really hope you get them all back safe and sound. I'm beginning to think security systems with hidden cameras are a necessity these days. —This is Noel. Damn man sorry to hear. I always have my gear in the back of my mind on vacations and am putting cameras up to keep an eye on the place whenever I'm out (in addition to my alarm). I hate hearing stories like this and wish you the best of luck getting everything back. Edit: Just saw you said the same thing Noel.. I've been researching it for over a year and finally pulled the trigger. Now to run all the cabling. Last edited: Jul 26, 2015 12:45:33 |

Sorry to hear John... No one mentioned Craig's List... probably a good idea to check it every now and then. I recall The Mermen had gear stolen in Las Vegas from their U-haul while parked in the casino parking lot. I believe it was found by a Mermen fan in a pawn shop in Montana. I also remember Dusty Watson had a big drum collection stolen out of a double locked self-storage unit. It's a crazy world and people do desperate things for money... |

That totally sucks. About 4 or 5 years ago, I had my motorhome, that was parked in my backyard, broken into. They stole two American Strats, and one Kay acoustic guitar that was given to my wife from her dad, Ken Albers of The Four Freshmen. Needless to say, I wasn't giving up on finding these guitars and getting them back. I think I posted the story here how I got them back years ago. I played detective, and after scouting out footprints in the dirt of my backyard close to a fence, I noticed the thieves were wearing van tennis shoes. I noticed the neighborhood kids behind me were wearing vans. I knocked on the door and the mother of the thieves and she showed me a guitar pick in her hand that belonged to me. The rest was history. I got all my stuff back. Alot of times, you get ripped off from people close by, that know your daily routine. I hope all the best in finding your stuff. —Be careful following the masses. I had all these sitting in my garage for months in LA and it didn't even lock! Here in Joilet, I'm burglarized as soon as I leave town for a few days. Last edited: Jul 27, 2015 00:23:44 |

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's a horrible feeling. Hope you got a record of the serial numbers, or some evidence for when your stuff turns up. I came home one Sunday night to find a burglar inside my flat. He'd locked the door so I couldn't get in, then climbed out the back window. After a bit of running about (me barefoot!) and some shenanigans he tripped over and I sat on him until the police turned up. In the UK, sitting on someone is the best way to restrain them so they can't sue you for assault (It's a passive restraint as you aren't using your hands). Useful tip just in case you catch up with them! Good luck — |

Ugh, I'd rather not meet the person robbing my house until he's fully subdued. criminals in America are vicious and crazy, desperate, angry people. The guy who slipped through my kitchen window must have been shrimpy though - but might have had a knife. |

Umm, I didn't mean to catch him, I was running after him to see where he went. It's just that he was as inept at running away as he was at burglary. It was all a bit Keystone Kops-ish. He was mainly sweating about his wife finding out. — |

I just talked to the lady at our local Keystone Kops Konstabulatory (Joilet Division) who told me to troll the local pawns and notify them if I find my instruments, so that they "might be able to place a hold on them and seize them for evidence". Sounds like even if this happened, it could be a long time until the kops gave them back. |

Keystone boys sent me on a wild goose chase talking to pawn brokers. Apparently, koppers don't know pawn law - they aren't allowed to talk about newly-arrived merch and it can't be sold until at least 30 days later, PLUS they have to ID everyone pawning so thieves are unlikely to pawn. I opened an insurance claim today for about $2000 stolen personal gear. — |

I got an invoice from the insurer. They tell me I must buy 'like' instruments from their preferred dealer, Sweetwater, who of course, know nothing about vintage gear. They tell me I need to purchase from them a new Epiphone Bobkat and Epi LP. |

Yes, I can't see how they have the right to make me buy stuff I don't want or just 'tough it'. It doesn't seem right that 'replacement value' must be determined at their sole convenience without regard to actual market values. Especially their special arrangement with Sweetwater, who admittedly has no knowledge of the vintage market - I proffered several vintage dealers they could consult, if it's not too inconvenient. JObeast, what you will have to pay an attorney will make you bleed and do without replacements. Everyone should read their ins. policies. You should have been given a policy when you took out the coverage or have access to one online. Most that I have seen require a separate rider for antiques, large amounts of tools or collectables. I have taken pics and descriptions of my junk to the agent and hope I never have to find out if I have done enough. If you can find an adjuster with the company that is sympathetic to you, that might be the best thing that can happen. The man with all the money has all the power. As a rule, that is none of us. I hope this ends satisfactorily for you. |
