Wow, I'm jumping onboard a little late here...

Here's my take on the Nirvana issue: Nirvana made grunge accessible to everyone. Cobain was a great songwriter because much of his stuff was simplistic. I was in the fifth grade when Nevermind was released. I bought it within a few months of release because it had caused such a buzz. Up to this point, I'd been listening to two extremes of rock music: REM and Metallica. Nirvana was a happy middle ground for me. Plus, through Nirvana and the growing Seattle scene, I got exposed to bands like Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, and one of my personal faves to this day, Sebadoh.
Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't have found these bands eventually, but if it weren't for Nirvana, I'd possibly still be yearning for a Marshall half stack and a flying V.

its sad that not everybody is as strong as your father Josh. I agree with what brian says. if someone commits suicide i promise you, to them its not for a "stupid" reason. for them its the only way out. im sorry you dont see it my way, we are all different. im just saying that your comments are very offensive to certain people and that they might be hurt hearing you say things like that. please think about it. im sure you dont want to hurt anybodys feeling.

im sorry if i offend, but im merely saying it's 'stupid' because he could have easily gotten on a plane and flown to somewhere remote.

and im not saying he is stupid for it, im saying the reason itself is, i don't even think that is really what happened, i personaly believe that courtney killed him...

and once again, im sorry for offending, im trying to make a point and it really isnt coming out right-it's kind of hard to explain from my point of view.

The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier.

That made me think--I was in the fifth grade when Abby Road was released. We should start a new thread called "things that make you feel old".

Hey, wait a second . . . I AM old! Crying

If Curt killed himself, I think it was more over the use of Heroin and other drugs, for his sever stomach pain, that his mother also has/had,
and being addicted and not being able to stop using. More than the whole
being a superstar and not wanting to be.
that made him pull the trigger.

When I heard that some said he was like the John Lennon of Our Generation I thought, well I never thought that highly of John Lennon, so whats the point there.

Awww, you guys are making me feel young. Of course, I feel a little older knowing that the high school kids I taught last semester weren't even BORN when it came out!

Not always, it could be.
But as the General Public doesn't always have great Taste.

General Public did'nt sing Taste, they sang Tenderness... Laughing

Courtney Love’s Sound Engineer Didn’t Get Paid
So He Isolated Her Vocals And Guitar.
Holy Cow You HAVE To Hear How Awful This Is

And even though I don't like Hole, the recording from the show isn't that bad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13QNXpJugBc&feature=youtu.be

Nobody deserves to have their vocals/guitar parts isolated and effect free.

Wow, this was an ugly thread to bump. Why?

You younger guys don't remember this probably, but all MTV was showing 24 hours a day was Paula Abdul videos. Dancing with Skat Cat or whatever the hell it was.. Then this thing called Nirvana happened. Suddenly guitars and loud angry music were popular again. I loved it. It really was a breath of fresh air until it got overexposed. I thought Kurt wrote great catchy power-pop songs. To each his own.
