Santas were kind.
A few aren't Surf or Instro but certainly good guitar playing.

Cool! Thanks, Jeff, for picking up Sonic Cataclysm! Some great albums there, but I would in particular highlight the Los Twang! Marvels collection of their earlier stuff, love that one! I highly recommend you also try to get "Jungle of Twang," their magnum opus, at some point, too.

Dig it!

Ivan,
Your live record has been on the list since it came out but I've been writing a bunch since then and doing less listening. I almost bought it this fall but my wife hinted that Christmas was coming so I put it on the list.

Cheers,
Jeff

I see that Heartbreakers limited vinyl there, you must've been a VERY good boy. Big Grin

(I love their Pack Up The Plantation album.)

That's a lot of patience and anticipation, Jeff - I hope it can live up to it! Wink

Just found this one at one of my local record stores. A bit of Ventures influenced fuzz on the guitars. Great drumming. Lucky find.

Klas's first "heads up" post and the series of exchanges following it (here) was an attention getter. Then Ivan's follow up (below) convinced me to wait no more. Rec'd this in yesterday afternoon's mail.

Holy Cow! This is sensational. All I can say is that I hope the "part one 1960-1961" across the top of the cover means there is at least a part two in the plans, if not more. There's a wealth of stuff entirely new to me here, and it is just fantastic.

Thank you Klas for bringing this to our attention!! Thumbs Up

A heads-up for anyone here into British early 60's instro groups besides just the Shadows. At first glance I thought I already had too much on it but when studying the tracklist a bit closer, it turned out that I only had about half of the tracks previously. Lots of great stuff on it for any euro-instro fans.

Klas, you called it - it's just phenomenal! I've been listening to it over the past week or so, but it's really hitting me in the right way at the moment. Absolutely amazing. Creativity off the charts! I also LOVE the four Ted Taylor Four tracks, of which I only had two before. What a wacked-out band!! Just brilliant! So great to have this comp, I cannot recommend it highly enough to all SG101ers!

For anyone who have been waiting for part two of this great comp, the bad news is that I don't think there will ever be one but the good news is that the label actually released a follow up comp although not titled The Haunted Pad for some reason. Not sure why but both CDs share the same subtitle (British Instrumental Guitar Music Of The Sixties) so I think this later one titled Ku-Pow! can be sort of seen as a part two although it doesn't have any year restrictions like part one.

Just like with The Haunted Pad, I first thought that I already had too much on it but after checking out the tracklist on Amazon a bit closer, I realized that I only had about half of the tracks previously. A funny thing is that the label screwed up by mislabeling track 5 "Ku-Pow!" when it's actually "Last Stage West" and then title the whole album Ku-Pow! when the song isn't on it! Big Grin

Anyway, anyone who dug The Haunted Pad comp will definitely dig this one as well.

My apoligies if this shows up twice as this is the second attempt. Salvaged this from a box of records I was given.

NSSR Latin American Surf Sampler part 1 (Valley To The Kings) and part 2 (La Playa).
Beautiful modern surf and laid back music.
A very good survey on many bands from 9 different countries of South America.
I remember when I bought some decades ago the Tokens LP " Wheels" I told my friend Randy that it doesn´t sound as good as The Hondells, Superstocks, BBs or J & D and he told me "That´s the reason why - they are not from California!!
Todays surf music can (and I mean CAN and not Must) be fantastic no matter from which counrty the group emerges.
