that was that! I'd say I was about 70% satisfied with it; some things worked better than others. A main problem was we started a bunch of stuff too fast and my pick & fingers technique apparently isn't up to the task! Great night though, and the debut of Ivo and the Wave Wranglers, who are really good. Tev, the guitar player/leader has a definite balkan streak, so a lot of the original tunes are in crazy time signatures etc. If he's not on here, I'll get him to sign up. —Matt Heaton & the Electric Heaters |

DP, I'm sure your objections are all bassless. You know, there is (was) actually a duo in Denver who perform topless, i.e., without a guitarist. It was garage, not surf, but with a good enough bassist I think a topless surf band might be interesting now and then. I once heard a surf band do Misirlou with a lead bass live. The bassist was late, and the rhythm guitarist was proving fairly lame as a bassist, so the lead took the bass for that song, at the end of which the actual bassist arrived looking a bit embarrassed. And there are a few novelty numbers with lead bass around. Last edited: Oct 31, 2014 16:14:45 |
