Permalink AV RI Jazzmaster love in

Out of all the guitars I've been through I have not owned one of these. Stock out of the box it sounds and plays better than the old CIJ I had. But I kind of expected that after doing the CIJ to AV Jaguar thing.

I've got 10s on it now and they feel real good. Like 9s on a Tele. Real bendy and I'm going to guess its the geometry of this guitar that makes for that feel.

I'm down to just my Super Reverb and debating whether or not to add a Showman to the arsenal. I'm leaning toward more Ventures/Davie Allan/ PJ and the Galaxies stuff so I'm having trouble justifying the piggyback/reverb tank thing.

I've been on a big Gretsch kick and they are nice guitars and all. But I forgot how well put together the AV line is. Nice finish, nice period correct case, great fretwork, and great stock electronics.

Any other AV Jazzmaster users out there?

Nice!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Nice looking Jazzy. I'm a confirmed JM user myself these days. I'm sure it sounds killer through your super reverb. I'd wait on the Showman, and see if the Super covers all the bases. You may want to spring for a Mastery bridge, I have one with and one without, and I really prefer the one with. Other than that, I love those guitars just as is from Fender.

Nice! I have a custom build Arctic White Jazzmaster coming my way soon, can't wait to put it together. I have a AVRI Jag, great guitar.

Also, I'm using a '65 Super Reverb with Tweed bassman transformer as my main amp at the moment, if anything looking to sell my Showman. Just sold a Bassman as well.

Jake when you say '65 do you mean an original or a reissue. My Super Reverb has so much sentimental attachment at this point I'd like to retire it. Didn't know you offed the Bassman and were looking to sell the Showman.

I don't know if I want to commit the 3 piece amp(head, cab, tank). The Super is heavy... but is one quick trip to the car.

When did you pick up the Jag? I remember you having a late 60s? or a CIJ with blocks? and a Pink AV at one point?

I have one just like yours. I luv it. Actually think it's better than my '66.

Original '65. The Jag I spoke about is the Pink AV, I don't own anymore Japanese anymore.

Nice Jazzmaster Bill. Really good to see you posting again. For some of the new members, Bill is one of the best surf guitarists around. Hope we get a chance to hear what you can do with the new guitar!

Jake---Arctic White--that is an interesting color choice. Are you going to go with the white/white (pickguard) look?

I thought about the white pickguard until the last moment, decided for Tortoise. Matching headstock.

Also considered, sonic blue, daphne blue, shell pink, burgundy mist.

Color is the toughest thing to decide (for me). Those are all good choices. With the size of a Jazzmaster, whatever color one chooses, there is going to be a lot of it. You can't go wrong with the classic white/tortoise combo.

I've been very happy with the AVRI line as well. My AVRI Jaguar is all stock, aside from an American Mustang bridge. I love it.

That is the beauty of the AVRI line, you don't have to change anything. You can upgrade, but you really don't need to. The pickups are certainly good enough, the electronics are great, and the bridge is good enough.

Far too kind! But thanks for the compliment.

So you've still got the pink one? Any recent pics of it? Even though I doubt I'd play it I wish I had kept my white Jaguar.

I agree with you on the updating of the AVs. Perfect right outta the box. I've got big hands and maybe a thicker profile would be nice, but for the Ventures stuff I really don't need blues guitar neck.

Yep, still got it. No recent pics unfortunately. It hasn't been out of its case more then four to five times in recent years, doesn't live at my house even. Lives with my parents. Good guitar though! I just have better ones... Poor Jag...

I've got a Fiesta Red AVRI. It's a fine guitar, I only wish the neck were a little slimmer.

Mike,
Are the necks fatter on the older ones? Mines about .820-.830 profile depth at the 2nd fret.

Hmmm. For some reason I thought that this a CIJ? I have mixed feelings about blue guitars. Some I like, others I hate. I have no idea why. Some just look wrong in blue.
