For me it's a toss up between La'tinia and Paradise Cove.

For me it would "gear", "everybody up" or maybe "collision course".

Latinia shure gets a lot of votes.....no doubt.

Great song. I listen to it regularly, along with....

Soul Beat Pt.2 by the Deltas.

Hard even to pick ten, let alone one

Intoxica (Centurions)
De Ora (Volcanoes)
Hurricane Beat (Hurricanes)
Journey to the Stars (Ventures)
Walk Don't Run (Jeff Beck Version)
FBI (Shads)
Pipeline (Chantays)
Misirlou (Mr Dale's original version)
Surf Rider (Lively Ones)
Surfer's Anthem (Evan Foster)

Can I pick a few more?

The Vice of Killing (Langhorns)
Samba Estrella (Los Twang! Marvels)
Sandstorm (Madeira)

He who dies with the most tubes... wins

Surf Daddies

Polaris by the Insect surfers, with Paradise Cove-Lively Ones and Theme from Slaying Beauty by the Bambi Molesters a very close 2nd and 3rd. I've always enjoyed Link Wray's, Jack the Ripper.

Sunset Beach by the Sentinals comes to mind.

Harlem Nocturne by the Viscounts.... killer.

Tough one. Hmm, for me it's gotta be "The Avenger's Stomp" by The Avenger VI (or "Good Humor Stomp" as it's called on the Diggin Out comp). Everytime I hear that song I go nuts.

Second place goes to The Trashmen's take on "Malaguena", and third place would have to go to "Red Sunrise" or maybe "Escape From Gulag 17" by The Space Cossacks.

Point Panic /Surfaris

a quote lifted from utube
"As a kid I thought this was the best surfing instrumental ever. It has everything: weird intro, then the tom tom thing, then a great riff, then a screamin sax solo behind which the guitar does that Bububububububububububa thing, pauses, and bubububas deeper into the bass, a final chorus on muted strings, and a big orgasmic ending back before that became common."

"Miserlou" by Dick Dale has to be the THE surf tune picking only one, but the rest of my top ten would be (in no particular order):

Squad Car (Eddie and The Showman)
The Jester (Jim Messina and the Jesters)
Mar Gaya (Fender IV)
The Wedge/A Run For Life (Dick Dale)
Latin'ia (Sentinals)
Surf Rider (The Lively Ones)
Paradise Cove (The Lively Ones)
Walk, Don't Run (I like the Ventures version. This song was written on a napkin by jazzer Johnny Smith when, after dissing rock music in general)he was challenged to write a pop hit - he did!!)
Pipeline (The Chantays)

apache

Malibu Run - The Fender IV

"Pancho villa" by Link Wray
"genocide" by Link Wray... not sure that it is surf.
"Man of mystery" The Shadows
"The savage" the Shadows
"Bumble bee" fast version.

In no particular order:

Miserlou
Pipeline
Baja
Hot Doggin'
The Jester
Ali Baba
Penetration
Our Favorite Martian

Truly, "Apache" as recorded by Jorgen & Greta Ingmann. It is not what they play, it is how. I've heard it a thousand times and it still sends chills down my back. Oddly, nothing else recorded by Jorgen Ingmann is listenable. Other versions of Apache are quotidian, including Ventures and Shadows.

That is a marvelous recording, but the late Danny Gatton took it several steps further--and on guitar rather than sax. Shadowy Men covered Danny Gatton's version but not at the same level. Gatton was not just a virtuoso, his playing was thrilling without resorting to gimmicky percussive maneuvers.

I just discovered 'SURF RIDER'.... maybe not the greatest of all, but the greatest for me today !

Of course Apache isn't really a surf song... Paranoid
