Hi .. I'm Louie Seven...new here, but not new to Surf/Instro music.
I'm sure this has been done before; but here goes.
TO me, the greatest SURF SONG ever... is....
SIMILAU, as performed/recorded by the Surfaris ~ I could listen to that track till the end of time. TO me, it says everything surf possible in music.
I dig the abrupt stop and the way the drums and sax kick back in!
It makes me want to play the drums... haha...and I'm a guitarist!
(Hi Abel! )
thank you for allowing me to state my case.
L7
p.s. this isn't really a poll.... just me making an entrance.

hey, welcome Louis. you came in through the wrong entrance
this forum is for things that have to do with the site itself, not music - there's a surfmusic general forum, gear forum, musican forum and so on. the shallow end is for off-topic discussion, it would be cool if you introduced yourself there.
enjoy the ride!

off topic discussion ? ........are you kidding me ?
boy..... you guys really know how to roll out the red carpet.
Is this some kind of hazing you put new people through?
If so, I'm not used to that.

Louie, it's just a bit of confusion. The moderator moved your post from the Website forum to the general surf discussion forum after WR posted that. Please don't be offended. You're very welcome here at SG101 and I look forward to reading what you have to add to our discussions.
As for my opinion of single best song, I'd have to go for Casbah by Sandy Nelson/Ritchie Podolor.

Louie,
I think you misunderstood WR when he was just listing all the different areas that a person can post in. He wasn't saying your topic was off topic, just needed to be in the general discussion area.
I guess Brian moved it. I dont think anyone here would jump on you like that.
as for single greatest surf song, Im gonna go with a twist in the word play and go with the Best single(45) of surf songs.
Bombora and Surfari by the Original Surfaris.

ok...I think I see waht happend.
the odd thing is... I was SURE I posted in this forum. I looked this site over for a whole day, it seemed like...read and read and read....etc.
I'm not sure I even went to the website forum.....but I guess I did.
shrugs....................
ANYWAY...... yeah, Bombora is great; but if I hadn't mentioned SIMILAU, I'd probably selected BAJA (as performed by The Astronauts). It still gives me goose bumps when it comes on the radio (every ten years or so....) heh

I like Pipeline.... but I was really disappointed when MONSOON/SCOTCH HIGHS fell off the charts.... I really expected that to go higher.

Hi Louis, I meant no harm! sorry if I confused you. ... I actually said it mostly because I dont think too many people read the general site forum, so they would miss your entrance! so, welcome again.
the initiation rites involve siscors and lots of PBR, but that's usually not 'till the second week.
spinning similau right now, thanks for the suggestion, hadn't played the surfaris in a long time!

"Wayward Nile" by the Chantays....totally unknown, (unlike "Pipeline")...sounds more like floating around waiting to catch a wave.... beautiful surf tune....

That made me think of the Astronauts great two-sider "Baja" b/w "Kuk". However, I don't think you guys want to know what those two song titles means in Swedish
As for best surf song ever, I still rank Pipeline as #1.

First off, welcome Louie!
I have a hard time nailing down one tune, but some of my top choices have been listed already, including Latinia and Casbah. I'm also quite fond of Ali Baba.

Eddie and the Showmen's version of Squad Car.
I had heard Pipeline a lot growing up and it is cool but it didn't make me want to start a surf band and buy all this gear. The Showmen's version of Squad Car is what surf music is supposed to be.
