Permalink Fender Bass VI (Jazzmaster, Jaguar) Tremolo Problem

New Topic

The colar that the tremolo arm slides in to on my Bass VI has fallen inside the body... I've seen the same problem on Jaguars but google is bringing up nothing :-/ is this fixable?

It's a 90's re-issue, and the problem occurred mid-whammy.

Assuming if you pull the bar way up, the collar re-appears through the plate, one possible explanation is the trem spring broke or got stretched enough to fall off/past the base of the screw assembly. Fix: new spring or try to reshape the one you've got.

If there's no sight of the collar even when you pull the bar way up and it's rattling loose in the cavity... that's obviously an entirely different problem.

When I bought my MIJ Jazzmaster about 20 years ago, the guy told me that the trem didn't work and "something 'sounded loose' in there." I bought the guitar anyway and I unscrewed the trem system and found that the collar had unscrewed from the plate. So, I screwed it back on, re-fit the tremelo system and not a single problem for 20 years and counting.

Hey, thanks Matt22... needed the VI (sans whammy) for some christmas shows so only got the chance to look today.

Here's a few pics of the repair for anybody else with the same problem.

It's such a cool instrument, isn't it? Fender Japan is supposed to do a new run of them this coming year!

Yeah, I'm really hoping they are reasonably priced.

I hope they have more sense than their parent company and don't hike their prices.
