Hot of the press,
Norm of the Ghastly Ones said they will be doing a 10 song set of Eleki at the Deke Dickerson, Guitar Geek Fest in Jan. In So. Cal. durring the weekend of the Namm convention,

he also said besides the band, that there will be some other special guests
joining them on guitar.

this is great news, make your travel plans now.
The Deke Geek fest is always a great show.
this kinda just blew the top off this years show.

I just got this in the mail today from CDJapan. Holy crap! Great _collection of Terry's early stuff, including covers of many first wave tunes, a few of which he'd re-cut for _Manatso No Umi Wo Buttobase. ("Surf Party" & "Point Panic.") Playing-wise, it's definitely not as wild and unrestrained as he would soon become, but it's still an excellent listen.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

That Kayama clip was actually posted quite recently in the video forum, including some fun discussion:

So does anyone actually know the name of the psychedelic tune?

It's a ripper!

I ran the Japanese YouTube title through a translator and out came the following: Psychedelic Insutourumentaru.

High time to bring up this thread again...

I just got what I understand to be a super rare Terry & his Blue Jeans 10" album from 1963. All instrumental versions of popular songs of the day with most songs featuring sax lead (!) and Terry having to settle for "second fiddle". Still a great record with a gorgeous recording sound.

image
Note that they're actually wearing blue jeans and jackets. Terry is 5th from the left.

I also recently came across a website with Japanese guitars, basses, amps and effects from the eleki boom. Hopefully not posted about before.

That is some quality music gear porn cheers...

Wow, I never heard of "Eleki" until this morning! A whole new world opens before me!

Is any one familiar with a band called Sincron? I'm not completly sure if they're an Eliki band, but to me they sound like they are. I heard them on the "Planetary Pebbles vol 1: Surfbeat behind the Iron Curtain" comp.

There's only 2 songs by them in this CD but they're really good. Have a listen... http://www.amazon.com/Planetary-Pebbles-Vol-Surfbeat-Curtain/dp/B000000X3J They play track 1. "Pe Linga Plopii Fara Sot", and track 18. "In Gara la Leordeni" which has the Sickest Wha/Fuzz/Vibrato solo that you've never heard(hehe). I would like a CD by this band but any info is much appreciated. BTW the Takeshi Terrauchi, The Alarm, and the Spotniks tunes are pretty cool as well. But the rest of the CD isn't that good.

The Deadbeats

Those are my two favorite tracks on that album too! We must be related or something. Laughing I don't have that album's liner notes with me, but I think the only info it offered about that band was that they were from... Romania? and that was all that was supposedly known about them. They must've been badass if the rest of their songs were anything like those two. Cool

I have two good 45s by them. Their full name is Ensemble Sincron Bukarest. They came from Romania’s capital. They played Framus guitars and since I started out on a Framus electric it’s great to hear them played to their full potential, vintage recording studio and all.
When I discovered this band I thought there had to be more music like that from the black sea countries but no luck so far. Maybe Berlin Beatet Bestes knows more? http://mischalke04.wordpress.com/
Unfortunately there’s no search function on his blog a this time :–(

Usually the south-eastern-european pop music was linked with movies or was cover versions, always vocals. The instrumentals came around in the early 1970s and are more jazz-funk or library style, thus OT for this forum.

There's 2 more songs by Sincron on Planetary Pebbles Vol.3

One under the name of "Cornel Fugaru and Sincron" the song is called "The Joddler from Gorj" it has singing (I'm guessing Cornel Fugaru is the singer), instrumental backing is OK but I found the song corny. Reminded me of some of the stuff on the Eurovision song contest!

The other is an instro "Dance with the Maiden" which was OK but nothing to write home about in my opinion.

I do like the two songs on Planetary Pebbles Vol.1 especially the one with the fuzz and wah wah.
